Oil for 1.9 PD TDI (507 00 v 505 01)

Featured Replies

58 reg 1.9 TDI PD

Picked up some service parts from the dealer today. I asked for VW 507 00 spec oil and he supplied me with...

COMMA Diesel PD 5w-40 (Meets requirements of: VW 505 01, VW 505 00/VW 500 00)

http://www.commaoil....uide/view/6/177

I questioned the (rather helpful) chap as to wheter this is longlife oil and he said "good as you can get" I said that I thought it should be 5W-30 for the longlife oil he then tried to explain the only difference is the thickness and it was fine.

Commas website shows:

Products For Your SKODA Octavia 1.9 TDI PD, -Combi (QG2 - 77kW) (2005-) DieselT - Engine Oil: Diesel PD 5w-40

Products For Your SKODA Octavia 1.9 TDI PD, -Combi (QG1 - 77kW) (2005-) DieselT Engine Oil: Prolife 5w-30

"Models fitted with DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter), PROLIFE" .........so what they supplied is not suitable if I have a DPF then. Wonder if my octaivas do?

Profile is also noted as "Meets requirements of: VW 504 00/ 507 00 Long Life Service"

I gather 507 is for DPF engines, 505 01 is fine if not DPF is fitted.

I went to the main dealer to get the proper parts but I feel he is not supplying me the correct oil. Shocking for a main dealer.

The brake fluid he supplied was alos "motaquip brake fluid" not VAG branded stuff. I red somewhere VW 501.14 brake fluid is require for >08

All I know is.

507.00 is the longlife 5w-30

505.01 is the fixed/10k stuff 5w-40

But its really what you know too.

Yeah, I think there is something about 507 00 being for cars with the DPF. Although I don't know if mine had a DPF

Although I don't know if mine had a DPF

I don't believe so - the current 1.9TDi doesn't.

Check out the official VW website https://erwin.volkswagen.de here they have a list of approved oils Approved oils. You will need to register first and I don't see COMMA ? ;)

Yeah it "meets requirments of" meaning its not officailly approved. In which case its bad for a dealer to supply it. VW would have supplied me with Quantum and VAG branded brake fluid

If your engine has the DPF the spec MUST be 507.00

make of oil is not important

Edited by Greenie58

IIRC only the vRS with the 170 CR TDI engine has the DPF, if you want to check yours for sure the look at the build codes for your car, the dealer might have put a copy in the service book, if not then there will be one in the spare wheel well, if one from the bottom left corner of the sticker it says 7GG then you have a particulate filter, if it says 0GG then you don't, also in the bottom left corner the code is there that says what type of servicing schedule the car is on.

Hello Experts,

Skoda Laura (Octavia mk ii) 2007 L&K PD 1.9

Namaste from India:

In need of desperate help, my car has fixed interval of 15k -QG2 and has 0GG(Emission standard EU4), that mean no DPF(Diesel Particle Filter).

When I refer my manual, it states Engine oil specification for diesel engine is VW 507 01 or VW 505 00

I searched the universe and couldn't find anything regarding VW 507 01, all I could get is VW 507 00.

Closest match to my search was found under(https://www.oilspecifications.org/articles/vw_motor_oil_specifications_explained.php), at the bottom of the article there is very informative logical chart and according to that, my oil specification is VW 505 01 or VW 507 00. I also read 507 00 has backward compatibility and it can be used. Agrehhh so confused!

So there is a great lever of ambiguity in the information. I checked with a local mech and he told VW 507 00 oil is best in market for PD without DPF.

I'm planning for Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 or Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 or AGIP EPI I-SINT 5W-40.

Please let me know the best oil grade and viscosity. I will be forever in your dept :P

That's just a misprint in your manual. Top line with note a) should say 505 01; lower one with note b should say 507 00.

Otherwise the notes about DPFs would also be the wrong way round.

Ahh such a relief. Thank you so much.

That misprint cost me a headache.

So I'm all good to use VW 507 00?

From the specs, 507 00 looks better than 505 01.

What happens when I use long life oil (507 00) in my engine instead of QG2(505 01 Hard to source).

I read somewhere that 507 00 is backward compatible with 505 01.

TIA

If all you can source is 507.00 you are good to use with either fixed or variable servicing.

507.00 is not necessarily a better lubricant however it will have additives which help with longevity and cleanliness of combustion, necessary with regard to a DPF.

Just noticed on a bigger screen; those two notes can't be the wrong way round because they are the same. Another misprint.

The note a) in the QG1 info is against the wrong line as well.

Don't rely on that manual, check everything!

Thank You MicMac, Just so that you know my car is Indian version with no DPF in it.
So for engines without DPF, should be careful in choosing the oil.

Without DPF use either 505.01 or 507.00 for fixed interval servicing.

If the car did have a DPF, you would have to use the 507.00.

After realizing my car manual provided has many typo's, I was able to get them online in Skoda website.

My car is 2007 make, so in the 2007 manual it's given that I should ONLY use VW 505 01(without DPF), it also states VM 507 00 is ONLY for engines with DPF.
Octavia_1Z_05-2007_engine_oil.jpg.51f239e2c35c62126f0d89e2ae4ee713.jpg

However the 2008 manual states that both VW 505 01 and 507 00 cab be used.

Octavia_1Z_11-2008_engine_oil.jpg.419e95d2e862289a7bcf193a91ee3d7d.jpg

Just one clarification here, since mine is a 2007 make, is it safe to assume specification(VW 507 00) from a manul of 2008.

P.S I'm assuming my car is EU4, as per the code 0GG = Emission standard EU4!

TAI.

As you are in a hot climate and on a fixed service schedule I would use the higher viscosity 5W-40 oil, either 505.01 or 507.00.

The lower viscosity -30 oil may make the engine sound noisey with a slight drop in torque due to piston ring blowby.

There aren't any approved 507 00 oils with 40 viscosity at working temperature, they're all 30.  It may be an idea for the OP to register with erWin Skoda. Then he could view a list of oils approved to 505.01; which might help with finding one available locally.

Just use 507.00 and change every 10,000Kilometres (yes, early) or 12 months - whichever you hit first

Hey bro......nice to see someone from India as well. Skoda suggests Castrol for our service centres but i use MOTUL 8100 X-cess or 8100 X-max.

Engine runs more freely and rev happy. Its is VW 502 00/505 00 grade so i guess u can use it on your diesel engine also. Change interval is 10k kms for me or 1 year. But i change oil earlier according to requirement.

You can buy it at a good deal from amazon.in from where i buy it normally.
