Uprated clutch for 4x4

Featured Replies

My car acted really strangely this morning like the clutch was slipping when I put my foot down in 2nd. It only did it once and I tried my best to repeat it but it was fine. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced clutch problems on the 4x4, chipped or standard. Speaking to Bengie last weekend he mentioned that he'd fitted an uprated clutch despite the the rest of his car been standard. Have any other 4x4 owners upgraded the clutch and have recommendations?

73,000 miles, still on original clutch... no problems!

Eddy, not on the 4x4 but I have upgraded Octy clutches before.

Have a chat to Mike at IP, they do the Sachs ones, suitably upgraded with a lightened and balanced flywheel (its a big bu99er too :D ). About

Talking to DaveH he occasionally gets this if he isn't quite off the clutch, possibly what happened in my case as it's the only time this has happened.

What me, never, surely I drive too slowly to experience anything like that. :D

Eddy, have you had any problems with the clutch pedal sticking/clicking or staying down, ie the faulty clutch master cylinder problem? This is more evident in cold weather.

Mines done it a couple of times, usually when Im not trying that hard, might well be me being too gentle coming off the pedal, probably what DaveH is saying. Since the last time Ive done the Cannonball which included a track day & its fine

DGW - I've had no other problems; this has been the only occurence

Stuart - I wasn't pushing particularly hard at the time so was probably just a one off result of me being a bit lazy. When I try to be to be hard on it I haven't had any problems.

I just like to post up experiences like this for other peoples info and to establish if it's happened to anyone else. That's the great thing about forums like this; being able to pull on a wider user knowledge/experience.

Aye, that's exactly it. If you are just a bit out of sync with the pedals the engine can spin the clutch up.

as i told ya i did notice a difference when changed even on a standard car but i think it was more from the flywheel as its only a single mass and doesn't therefore 'soak' up the initial kick from booting it. i expect the better clutch will help mine once fettled but at the mo i think its the flywheel doing all the extra work if ya know what i mean.

and btw my mine was done at 95k when the thrust bearing went and the rest was done as not to waste labor charges as they were pretty the much the same either way, and the flywheel done becuase it was loads cheaper than just an original 'skoda' part and also, just because i wanted it
