Yeti & Chips anyone?

Featured Replies

Two weeks after picking up my Yeti in mid December I noticed lots of small chips in the area of the bottom of both rear doors and wheel arches. I fitted front mudflaps (10 minutes work) which has helped but I am still getting the odd chip. I've owned a couple of X-Trails in the past which have had clear plastic protection covers to the rear arches and maybe these should also be fitted to the Yeti. The 900 miles covered have only been 'normal' conditions though obviously they were through the snowy (gritty) conditions. Has anyone noticed the same problem? Apart from this minor annoyance I am delighted with my Yeti. They are officially brilliant but I don't have to tell you that!

Hi,

my early production Monster has plastic film on the lower rear part of the rear doors.

I have some small chips in the same area - aft corner of the rear doors where it flares out to the wheel arch. Fabia was the same and I've had mudflaps on the SM since new. I'd also thought about applying a protective film at some point.

I put it down to the appalling state of the roads at the moment with all the potholes and breaking up road surface.

Strange you have them on yours, TP!

Hi aero,

hadn't appreciated they had stopped fitting this film, all early production Yeti's I have seen have it :wonder:

Hi TP

I'll let mine get through the winter (ie get a bit worse!) then I'll know exactly where and how much film to apply! emoticon-0144-nod.gif

If early cars had it from the factory then its probably been allocated a part code! Does anyone here have access to the skoda parts software? ;)

Id be very interested in this.

I'd be surprised at that (they should be well aware of these being on place from experience of the past models ie Octavia) but maybe they are dealer fit at PDI and some havent bothered? (Or am I still thinking of Ford days when the dealers used to be responsible for badges etc that regularly got missed!?)

Defiantly a factory thing, as I got to view my Monster shortly after coming off the transporter still cloaked in protective white film. Mind you the salesman at first thought the plastic film was a fault or repair :wonder:

Not seen film applied to the front wings on the early cars, so thanks for the info on that one scunjee. Any pictures by the way?

heck me steam driven 'puter is starting to groan but here goes

I've been researching possible film solutions, this might be of interest to others. Venture Shield, are going to release a kit for the Yeti, though it doesn't cover the area that's been raised. The transparent plastic is made by 3M and is laser cut. Below is a quote I was provided with, however you'd need to drop the company a line to clarify. The price is not insignificant, so I'd be really interested if anyone has gone down this route.

The quote still needs to be confirmed but I was given price guide,

Full standard kit including fitting would be £399.00, including. . front bumper and headlights

Optional extras will be :

Full front bonnet @ £150.00 extra

Full front wings @ £145.00 extra

Best, Jonathan

Could you not just open the PDF to get the part code and type it here for us?

Thanks

Looking at the postings so far there seems to be a number of vehicles that have varying degrees of plastic film fitted from the factory with no relation as to when it was built. It will be interesting to monitor the postings as and when new owners join the forum. Thanks to everyone who has responded so far.

Hobson

PS

If anyone is interested you can buy 3M protection film from a company called Premier Paint Guard. Will wait until the warmer weather and give it a go!

Cheers

I was away on business today, so as I passed a Skoda dealer I popped in and had a look.

Neither of the models on the forecourt had protective film.

Please tell me that the technicians (or valeters) are not removing the film at PDI / clean. They can't be that stupid can they?

From what I recall, the new one round the back with the white plastic film still on didn't have the protective film either.

Oh well, if mine has this missing I will have to send Skoda a bill for a long roll of sellotape.:D

sure.. there's a whole bunch so I'm not sure which applies:

genuine accesories: KDX 630 001 - mask film bumper rear - qty 1

there's no picture available like on other technical parts so I can't confirm if it's indeed the right film you're looking for.

I'll keep searching if there's something else.

Andy

ps. ..in any case - what's the easiest way to attach a pdf file here ?
