R32 / 330 or stick?

Featured Replies

Can't decide what to do.

I've had my octy for 6 months now and cant decide what to do with it as it's not really giving me the enjoyment i'd hoped for.

coming from my modified fabia vrs that put a smile on my face everytime i gave it some beans the Octavia just doesn't have the same effect. although it's got the fantastic practicality going for it

Wondering if i should

Get the octy remapped to about 205hp, don't know how driveable a front wheel drive car with this much power and more importantly torque would be.

Get a BMW 330 0r 330d driven these and love the RWD and the torque the diesel gives to kick the ar5e out. Also given that i couldn't get the octy up the hill to my house in the snow i'm worried about the capabilities in bad weather.

or get a Mk 5 R32, love the V6 and 4WD sounds like a good idea with big power and will get me home through the snow (in theory)

i know the R32 and teh 330 will be thirstier ut thats not a huge concern for the 8000miles i do a year (if that)

Any words of wisdom from people with experience would be great but all points of view will be given a fair hearing.

Thanks

Scott

R32 mate!

I have had quite a few BM's over the years from a 381i through to an M3 and they all have 1 thing in common - they are hopeless in the snow (even with an LSD), so you will either need snow chains/socks or another form of transport for the few weeks we get snow in the UK.

i have the same feelings about the octy vrs,i had a mk2 octy vrs tfsi and after the fabia i found it copletly devoid of any character it is without a doubt the worst car i have ever ownen,i sold it at a huge loss at 3 months old,i would say having driven both the cars you sugest as a replacment that either of them are great cars, but for sheer driving thrills and quality the bmw would just shade it for me

R32 no brainer

330d and a Remap :D

if the budget can stretch to it the 335 is an amazing machine, but they still hold strong money even used

Is the Mk2 Octavia vRS really that dull? I keep hearing people say so and this worries me as when my Mk1 eventually goes, the Mk2 was near the top of my list. :(

R32 just for the noise!

+1

Get something proper wheel drive..

BMW will hold money better, and not make you assume the £440 tax position

thats a big engine in a BMW :giggle:

i have always wanted an R32, but that BMW 330d, in touring version, might get my money these days

so go for the R32

Have you bought the R32 yet?

No it's not dull, ok it doesn't have the raw/ rough edge of the Mk1 but with a good remap it's a fast yet smooth car to drive.

The interior is so much nicer and more practical than the old Mk1 interior too. Unfortunately the Mk2 Vrs is as good as it gets performance wise whilst sticking with Skoda.

I believe your not far from me so if ever you want to try mine get in touch.

Beedie is yours the Derv or petrol version?

We were looking at Golf GTIs and the wife spotted an R32 in Blue, she was ready to sign up for the finance until we checked how much the tax was!

£440 is worth it! Tis only £36 a month :)

Hmmm… you know you want to.

What about an S4? Or RS4?

i have a mk2 tfsi with a stage 1 remap and love it. i previously had a astra vxr (chav mobile) and this car is so much more fun to drive.

When the time comes to change, I may just do that.

BMW for me, you cant base a car decision on "what if we get a bit of snow for a few days of the year" lol, if it snows, so what, get a cab/bus/use it as ur excuse for no work :D

matt

what about the new ford RS focus? 300 bhp - interior looks rubbish though but i've seen them advertised at 24K

The BMW, whats the servicing cost going to be on a 330 - never had a bmw service but i understand their not cheap.

BMW all the way.

I've driven a couple of (mk1) R32s, and while great, i found them uninvolving. If you want to get from A to B stupidly quickly, and safely, they are just as good as a scooby.

If you want to get to B with a huge smile on your face, a couple of minutes later, get a Beemer.

330i for me. Knocks spots off the R32, and will cost about the same to run and maintain, infact I think the 330i is slightly better on fuel!! :)

R32 sounds LUSH, get one!

Our unit uses/has had or has tested the Octavia vrs, Golf VR6 and R32, Audi 3.2, Audi S3, BMW 123d, 130i, 330i, 330d, Subaru Impreza, Legacy 3.0r.

All ours are standard and unmodified, and driven hard (and sometimes quickly) on real world public roads.

Having driven many miles in these conditions, I would spend my own money on a BMW 123d or 130i, or the 330d. - excellent performance, handling and economy.

Audi S3 is good but if your driving it hard expect about 19 mpg (The older 3.2's averaged 16 mpg!)
