Different aspect ratio tyres on rear axle - get a new tyre?

Featured Replies

Only just noticed today 3 tyres are 185/60 R14 and one is 185/65. I believe this means the tyre is about 1cm larger in height. Previous owner took it to Kwack/Kwik Fit so it's no surprise I suppose.

Should I get a new tyre?

TIA

If the previous owner still gave you the receipt take it back and get Kwik Fit to change the tyre

Heard too many scary stories of them damaging brake discs and spraying oil onto shocks

Receipt is dated June 2009, so I expect they'd tell me there's nothing they can do?!

No harm in trying though.... If the receipt has the car numberplate or something which ties it to the vehicle then you might get somewhere....

Had this on a lease van we acquired .The only people that would change it would have been the depot fitting it .Don't know how manager got round it .Didn't you have ABS problems ? .On the van ,anything over 55 and the ABS warning came on .Needless to say Ford couldn't find anything wrong

No ABS light, although when I plug in my £10 ebay Vag-Com cable using 409.1 shareware version it comes up with a code which according to a search on the net means to check the ABS for codes (doesn't make any sense to me - and there's nothing conclusive on the net what this code means) - I figure maybe all Fabia's come up with that code and if there was anything serious the light would come on.

If potential ABS problems are the least of my worries seems like I should get a tyre the correct size.

AIUI it's illegal, unless the odd size is being used as a marked emergency spare. And it will cause issues with ABS (also traction control and ESP if fitted).

Also found another the wrong size when I looked at all the tyres again. Kwikfit first offered to put the 2 larger ones on the rear axle but happily replaced the 2 tyres when asked.
