EDL light has just comeon

Featured Replies

2005 Fabia 1.9Tdi

Just coming back from work tonight and my 'EDL' (the skiding car pic) light has come on and stayed on after about 10-15 mins of driving. I dropped my friend off and turned the engine off and restarted the Car and the light has gone off. But! Once again after about 10 mins of driving it has come on again and stayed on till I got Home. A quick look in the manual covers a few faults options, but as ever, I thought I would ask the evere reliable for a bit of advice (aka peace of mind!).

Could it be something as simple as dirt? The Weather? A faulty sensor or worse??? Or is it a common thing to happen/play up. I'm guessing it ain't going to go away :'(

And advice or tips would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking!

Any ideas?

skidding car pic as in traction control(ASR) light?

skidding car pic as in traction control(ASR) light?

Yes, but the car might also have an EDL - I've forgotten if that was part of the ESP package or extra - this is a job for VAG COM as its a lot safer than guessing at a distance. Time to call for local HELP!

This has happened to my Fabia Vrs too - light came on and stayed on for the first time last night, after about 10 minutes driving - the "switch it off and on again" trechnique cleared the problem but same thing this morning. Any ideas would be useful. The car only has the basic traction control not the fancy version. Battering the ASR button a few times made no difference.

A VCDS (VAG-COM) scan should yield more information.

Also, if safe to do so, attempt to trigger the traction control. Obviously in normal circumstances having the TC/ESP light on permanently indicates that the system is de-activated. This test would also help you establish whether that's also the case in this instance.

Thanks for the info Guys. I've booked in for a VAG scan on Monday, so hopefully cheap/good news!

The traction control is not active once the light comes on - the car is behaving exactly as if I'd switched it off. The car drives exactly as normal but is obviously very quick to spin the wheels when pulling away. Can you post the results of the scan as I'm not going to get near a garage for a while.

Any luck working out what's causing it? My traction control light comes on exactly 10 minutes after startup every trip now. Other than that the car is behaving normally.

It could be a faulty ABS sensor, but you need to have it scanned first really.

The ABS still works normally when the ASR light is on, the traction control doesn't but ABS does - do they use the same sensor unit on the wheel?
