Hello fellow Skoda lovers.

I have a 2002 Octavia 1.9TDI L & K that has done about 140000 miles now. I am completely smitten by its looks, handling, comfort, responsiveness and hifi however it is suffering from occaisional limp mode caused by the sticky vanes in the turbo. My local turbo repairers say they don't strip and clean the Garrett turbochargers anymore as Garrett wont let them have spare parts so apart from forking out £700+ for a new turbo I am running out of options. After surfing the web I noticed that in the states a lot of people use a product called "Seafoam" to clean sticky VNTs and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it and if so how to use it on an Octavia. Any help will be greatly appreiciated.

If it's sticky vanes for sure, the only real way is to spend a day removing the turbo, splitting it open, cleaning it, and refitting. :)

I'd bet you can get new gaskets for it and if you're cleaning out the VNT that would be all you need. If it's more than that then you'd send it off to be exchanged for a recon unit.

Thanks for the advice and warm welcome to the community. You guys are right so I am going to get it properly VAG checked and get a local garage to strip it and clean if need be. I am sure that if I invest in getting this car back to 100% shes gonna pay me back  .
