More Bhp=more Torque?

On a remap can the BHP be Increased and the Torque lowered to save the Clutch, or doesn't it work like that

Does lowering the Torque lower the BHP?

Can you have the Torque put where you need it most ie :- at the top of the rev range, in the middle, at the bottom end or all the way through?

I would suggest that you browse wikipedia, or get a book on engine tuning mate, there are lots of factors involved.

As an idea, the length of inlet tract adjusts where power and torque come in, longer ones are better for low down power, shorter ones for high up power.

Generally, power and torque are linked, although adjustments can made to lower the torque to save the clutch, for example.

engine power is calculated from torque and engine speed; power = (torque x RPM) / 5252, if you reduce torque at a given engine speed you're reducing power at the same engine speed

Something like, power is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you drag the wall.

Maybe the other way around though lol

Horsepower is what you read about, torque is what you feel.

Think about somebody turning a winch, for example a bucket on a rope being raised up a well.

When you raise the bucket you are doing work. Power is the rate of doing work so to raise the bucket faster needs more power.

Torque is the turning force you need to apply to the winch handle, if you don't have enough torque you won't be able to lift the bucket at all.

But if you had a gearbox on that winch handle you could change down a gear and fthen be able to lift it with lower torque, but the bucket would move slower.

As said already power = torque * speed. (5252 is a units conversion factor)

In layman's speak: Torque creates acceleration; Power maintains steady speed. Both related, though.
