FL colour choice (Not VRS)

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Following a test drive of a face lift Octavia TDI VRS CR. I am looking to get a 1.8 TSI (decided I would miss the smooth free revving nature of petrol) as either an Elegance or L&K. If it is the L&K I would spec the onyx / Alcantara seats.

Thing is I am not sure of the colour, only seen a few on the road so not seen all the colours. So how about posting a few pictures of your pride and joys? I am getting sick of VRS pictures ;-)

Thinking so far on colours

  • Candy White - Seen two both taxi's looked nice when clean, but not for me.
  • Dynamic Blue - Not seen one not even pictures on the 'net.
  • Corrida Red - Seen pictures, looks good for a base colour.
  • Brilliant Silver - Last 2 cars have been silver, I think it looks a little flat.
  • Storm Blue - Hmm not sure
  • Black magic - Very nice with the L& K wheels, but I wouldn't keep it clean enough. Also would go for Onyx Alcantara so black with black and added black...
  • Aqua blue - A bit wishy washy?
  • Arctic Green - Suits the car quite well - all the dealers have this colour.
  • Cappuccino - Not seen one in the metal, but pictures look good and it's not silver. Probably favourite so far.
  • Anthracite - Saw an SE in show room, looked boarding. Probably better on VRS.
  • Satin Grey - Looks OK on scouts.
  • Rosso Brunello - Would love to see one. I think someone on here has one? If so please post pictures.

So can any one help me to decide? Either by convincing me there is a magic formula for keeping black cars clean or by posting pictures especially of the rarer colours.

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon,

I have a Cappuccino beige FL estate. I think the colour really suits the car although I'm not so sure it would suit a hatch as much. Are you planning to go for an estate or hatch?

I agree with your assessment of silver - the Skoda silver looks dull to me and doesn't look like it will age well.

Cappuccino wouldn't have been my first choice (SWMBO chose it), but I'll tell you it really has grown on me. In the metal it's a deceptive colour that changes it's appearance under different lighting. In the showroom under artificial lights I could have sworn it was silver and could hardly see the difference compared to a silver car sat next to it whereas outside in natural lighting it's more a metallic light beige. It looks best under sunlight where it looks more metallic/silver and less beige.

You really should try to see the colour in the flesh at your dealers. When we were choosing the dealer showed us a new car round back awaiting collection as well as one in the showroom.

There are some rather poor photo's of my car in this thread:

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/149982-first-detail/

although I think it's a colour you need to see for yourself.

Overall, I'd recommend for an estate, less so for a hatch but it's all just personal opinion

So do I.

Along with Aqua Blue they were the two new colours when the facelift was launched. No regrets from me in choosing that colour, it is also a brochure picture favourite. Not sure how popular it is, have not seen that many Arctic Greens on the road. Although it is really a silver with a greenish hue, many have a superstition when it comes to green cars. Also it is very difficult to photograph accurately since it is a bit of a chameleon reacting to different light conditions - as does the Aqua Blue being the blueish version of it.

[*]Rosso Brunello - Would love to see one. I think someone on here has one? If so please post pictures.

Looks very good on Scouts, jury is out on regular Octy:

It has potential to look good with beige/ivory interior on Elegance...

Yeah, Rosso Brunello looks fantastic on Scout

V0n / Bill,

Thank you for the Rosso pics. First Octavia I have seen in that colour. I does suit the scout better. In fact I had a Corsa in Satin Red Metallic (I am sure it's the same colour) ...at that time they had grey plastic arches so that scout looks like its body building dad!

So I think that's Rosso crossed off the list.

Thanks keep the suggestions coming.

Simon

I just ordered mine, seen the Rosso in a standrad octy in teh show room, up until then thats what I was going to choose, but didnt like it in the metal.

I have ordered the Alacante Gray, havent seen it on the real car, seen it on a Superb and it looked good.

i meant Anthracite Gray, dont know came over me there

I have a Black Magic car. It's a beautiful colour, but a complete pig to keep clean.

I never buy a car without seeing the specific model in the colour Im thinking of buying & outside, not under showroom lights

A couple of weekends ago having rung round various dealers I found scouts in Cappachino, Silve & Arctic Green I then spent most of the saturday driving to see the cars before ordering one In Arctic Green with the Alcantara Interior because for me it looked the best, Silver was too Volvo but would have been safe, Cappachino seemed a bit grey & Old looking against the scouts "body kit" but I would say looks better on the ordinary Octy.

If you badger Skoda Customer services enough they will mail you a dealer list to ring round.

Another thing I usually try & do is test drive a secondhand one, really just to see how good the build quality is as I hate rattles. Scout passed this one as well.

Because we do a lot of miles I also look at the various colours on dirty cars, I find Silver, Beige & light metalics can look reosnable even when filthy, dark colours are a no no for me but its all personal choice.

If you are worried about resale choose a common colour, Silver is always a safeish bet

Hi Thanks for the pictures, by the way though it's going to be a hatch back. I guess they are not as popular as the estate.

Stuart - Good post. I do intend to try and see one in the chosen colour. I am just trying to narrow the field a bit so I don't have to travel as much.

Anyone got a storm blue Elegance or L & K hatch?

Aqua blue, despite being "light", is actually a stronger colour than you might think; it has a subtly hard edge to it which is hard to define.

As Bassa says, it is a bit chameleon depending on the light, so you really need to see it in the metal.

It benefits from being kept clean otherwise it can look either pale grey or dirty silver! Howver when next to a silver car it's clearly a distinct colour.

Looks good with onyx interior

Hi Thanks for the pictures, by the way though it's going to be a hatch back.

Anyone got a storm blue Elegance or L & K hatch?

Some of those colours are so rare, I bet most of Skoda dealers haven't seen one in flesh since FL was introduced, let alone particular model and shape. As I've gone through exactly the same when choosing my new Octy I'm thinking about compiling a sticky type of post in a spare moment with pictures of each colour in hatch, estate and scout, pics of all interior trims

Anyways:

[*]Dynamic Blue - Not seen one not even pictures on the 'net.

Bad picture, but you get idea:

[*]Storm Blue - Hmm not sure

This hatch below, (pic borrowed from evilsun from drive2.ru ) is Storm Blue:

however, in full sun they have that kind of ink/deep sea shade, almost identical to P11 Nissan Primeras (sorry, estate again)

V0n,

I think the sticky of trims and colours is an excellent idea especially whilst there is not so many of the Face lifts around.

The Storm Blue does look nice in sun light, I think it works better on the face lift. Probably down to the increase of silver / chrome at the front. What do you think an L&K in that with Onyx interior too dark?

Simon

Who's this Bill Blake that posts quotes but no message?

Mine is Aqua Blue and I love it.

Best to hang around the dealers and see cars in the various colours.

I'd a mirror replaced recently and ,unfortunately, the paint does not match from a few angles now. I assume it is to do with the direction it is sprayed from? Most angles the paint looks the same.

Not got the time or energy to spend and I'll get used to it.

+1 :S

Mine is Cappucino which I quite like.

I would take a picture but the weather is so dire at the moment.....

The colour schemes on the Skoda website may be a helpful guide, but this is obviously no substitute for seeing the thing in the flesh. On their site (and in the colour charts in the dealers showrooms) Cappucino appears as a sort of metallic silver. And so it does in certain lights. But in dimmer light it appears more metallic beige than silver.

The other thing you also might like to consider on the estate is the colour of the roof bars. The dealer had an Arctic Green one on display with the silver bars and it looked very good - the body colour was such that I don't think the standard black bars would have suited. But I also think silver bars would have looked odd on the Cappcucino colour.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) personal colour tastes vary considerably and you need to look at real cars. Photos are helpful guides but depending upon the light they were taken in, may mislead. Luckily I don't think Skoda do a truly awful colour. (Stands by to be contradicted).

Blue with a slight touch of red :giggle:

I have ordered an Elegance in Anthracite Grey and when I saw it next to another elegance in Black Magic I gotta say I was so glad I went for the grey. The black looks a little flat considering it is a metallic colour and just didn't seem to suit the elegance spec. Perhaps it would look better with bigger alloys or on the VRS. My last two cars have been black and I've loved it, and was sorely tempted to have it again, but I'm glad I didn't now.

The car I test drove was an SE in the metallic dark blue (whatever the name was) and it was very nice. If I was looking for more of a colourful car then I would have gone for that. I also love the flat red, but only really on a VRS.

The Storm Blue does look nice in sun light, I think it works better on the face lift. Probably down to the increase of silver / chrome at the front. What do you think an L&K in that with Onyx interior too dark?

I think it's a great colour. For me, right after I found out highland green was discontinued, it was a close call between anthracite, storm blue and black. Missus hated anthracite (too concrete grey for her) and black on Skodas is rather underwhelming, very non-metalic and flat, especially when slightly road dirty and dusty, which my cars always are. So that left me with a storm blue. However, as much as I like the colour - I had Peugeot 306 and two Nissans in that kind of blue mixed with sea green cars and all three of them were absolute nightmare when it comes to scratches and stone chips. Every tiny scrape, hairline and chip in the paint was visible from miles away, absolutely impossible to cover up with touch up pens or t-cut out and didn't even look right in sun at angles against rest of the car when I had door fully resprayed. I even asked our good fellow forumite James from Allams to show me Storm Blue car just to make sure it was that type of colour (which I still really like, just don't want to stress about again as long as I work in London). Simply not right for my circumstances.

So against my own likes and dislikes I picked that slightly underwhelming pearlescent black (which I know is going to be hard to keep clean and hot in summer) but at least it's predictable in aftercare while being universally popular (unlike burgundy for example) should I choose to sell the car in few years. I'm not particularly thrilled about it, but then again, the rest of the car was a compromise too - couldn't have ivory alcantara option in L&K, couldn't spec Elegance (which has ivory option) up to L&K level without massively overpaying for privilege etc etc and since everything in the car was already in "undertaker grim" (I picked onyx alcantara over grey leather), I thought - so be the exterior. :D

I have a facelift Storm Blue Elegance estate with ivory interior. It's a little dirty at the moment and I only have my iPhone with me but I can get a photo for you if you like. I really like the colour, I think it suits the car.
