Superb II Idle Speed

Featured Replies

Newbie going in all guns blazing. It's a Candy White 1.9tdi/105 in S trim. 23k as a taxi in it's first year. Very pleased on the whole. Idle speed sometimes plays up. At normal operating temp. it'll start idling at 1k rpm. Will eventually settle about 5-10 mins later to the usual 850. No hunting. It's almost like an 'electronic choke' is kicking in. Is this normal? Any ideas gratefully considered.

if you have a DPF then the regeneration process raises the idle RPM to 1K for a short period of time, this is what I think is happening to you. It will do it more often if you only use the car for regular shortish trips where the engine does not run at operating temperature for a period of time.

I have the same car as you,a taxi same age and 22K,i also get this problem.I was a bit concerned as i have had it re mapped and thought it was this causing it. No dpf on the 1.9s so a problem that needs sorting then.

Probably best to get it scanned with VCDS.

Re: the dpf, I think mine does. Some were some weren't. Dunno if that makes me lucky or not. If I do then the regeneration thing sounds plausible. Shortish trips etc. Skoda were next to useless. Computer says no. I hate that. I wish they did a Haynes manual.

1k rpm seems very high and it makes an awful racket. Settles down eventually but can't be good for diesel consumption.

Another taxi? There's a few of us popping up. I still get nice remarks a year in. Good job they can't see the buckled door trim where your right elbow rests.

Had my elegance about 4 months now, another taxi! 26K for me so far. I've also noticed this of late, only mine is a 2.0cr 170. Still loving the car and get loads of compliments from customers.

I reckon that will eventually be a coolant or fuel sensor fault if there's no dpf.

Ah well who knows. One day I will have an answer. Any other interesting niggles or do I have to start again?

Thanks for that info. It does make sense. In your experience how often does this process happen? Daily? Weekly? For the first 6 months it never happened, then it started gradually and now it's a regular thing. Had it checked by Skoda but the computer said no even while the car was doing it in front of them!!!
