Engine stutter

Featured Replies

my fabia has developed a stutter under gentle throttle feels more like a split second hesitation then engine picks up. model is a 06 plate vrs with BLT engine. ive heard rumours that EGR valve can cause this?

so far ive changed air filter, fuel filter and fitted new MAF sensor today. after this was fitted car seemed better but stutter came back. had vagcom on the car and no fault codes MAF and EGR reading are as normal.

anyone have any ideas and also would someone be able to fill me in if the EGR valve does cause this kind of problem.

thanks for any help :D

Classic EGR symptoms, but check N75 is moving the VNT

The problem is that the hole in the EGR by-pass plate is too big. Skoda did this to make the car pass the new EU IV emissions regulations. Get yourself down to your local Slkoda emporium and ask them to fit you a new EGR by-pass plate. They come with a very small hole and the garage then drills that out to whatever size they deem necessary. To completely eliminate the problem you want a 9mm hole. Skoda found that they couldn't make the car EU IV compliant with a 9mm hole so they told the garages to retrofit a plate with a 14mm hole drilled in it, which makes the situation better, but doesn't 100% eliminate it.

If you can find the right dealer, they will do you a 9mm hole plate and you can probably get it done for free if you speak nicely to Skoda customer services (if the original owner asked for it, they definitely would have done it for free).

Ultimately you could buy an EGR delete pipe from Jabbasport and have it fitted and the subsequent warning light mapped out. I think that costs about £100 fitted and if the dealer is charging to have the bypass plate drilled and fitted, it could be the about the same money.

The chap who posted above (MoggyTech) has also suggested a substantially cheaper modification, which is just to remove the vacuum hose from the EGR valve and plug it with a golf tee. Apparently that fixes the problem too!

if it is the hole in the plate being too big then why has the stutter started all of a sudden surely it wud of been there from new???

What do you mean by stutters?

If im cruising at 60/70mph in 6th and put my foot down it gives a little judder then picks up and goes. Is this the same as yours?

Read all about it here

Mine had the classic BLT stutter symptoms and it turned out to be a collapsed fuel filter.

I had same symptoms as you, just replaced the gasket with a 9mm (drilled to approx 12mm) and the stutter has gone :D
