ECU remap advice

Featured Replies

Hello still going on about my fabia im affraid, now ive got to the bottom of the turbo sounds im looking at getting it remaped. The car is standerd 130 bhp and ive spoken to a company in plymouth angel tunning and they are telling that the ecu remap they would advise would be for a 48bhp increase and thr torque to go up to 304 and they wouldnt advise going any higher on a standerd clutch. Now im not a fool and know that i cant go and try to get 300 bhp out of it as standerd parts of the car will go bang. But i thought 48 bhp raise was quite high i mean that was like my old car power put onto even more!!! Has any one had problems with good ecu remaps putting way to much strain on say the clutch or turbo.

Angel tunning are quoting 235 for that remap +48 bhp and torque raised to 304 i think is this good? If not can anyone give me other companys localish to cornwall.

I used Angel in Plymouth, did a good job I feel. My car ran 176bhp/302lbft on the standard turbo, Unfortunately it then went pop on the 'Ring, and decided to fit the PD150 turbo instead so not sure what power its running now.

As for the map it gave a lovely smooth power graph, so no complaints from me

another vote for angel tuning here... had the fiat mapped at 4,000 miles, nigh on 100k now, and nothings gone bang! not so much power (158) but thats 148 at the wheels, and 314lbs/ft of torque ;) very happy

The brakes and suspension were designed for 130 BHP, if you are keen to proceed sort those out first. You will also have to nanny the car below 2,000 RPM or the DMF will die. You may also notice clutch slip in 5th and 6th if you give it WOT.

Insurance will go up.

So bigger Brakes

Rear ARB

uprated clutch and SMF if you want to drive it hard.

Also be aware, the diff crown wheel is riveted to the diff carrier, ideally these rivets should be drilled out, and a special nut and bolt conversion fitted in their place.

Done right, it gets expensive. You could buy a 96 plate Lexus IS400 V8 that goes like stink for the same money, and probably get some change.

My remap is by Angel - everything else is standard - very pleased with it. Nice amount of poke without it being silly.

Remaps are not a miracle solution though, as people here will point out you are still limited by the other parts of the car.

How old is your car? If it's an 06 MY or later and running a BLT engine then it's almost certainly putting out a lot more than 130bhp (140-150bhp) but you'll probably still only end up with 175-180bhp after the remap. One of the problems with remaps if that they make the car feel much faster because you are getting lots more torque rather than lots more power and it's the torque that puts the smile on your face with that firm shove in the back. However, deployed badly (ie. heavy throttle under 2500rpm) will see the clutch and DMF destroyed in fairly short order. And if it's got a very low or very high mileage on then the turbo could be due for a change in the near future as well.

I'm regularly accused of being negative about remaps but they'll only really let you overtake faster. When you come to a corner the car will still nose-plough straight through the first hedge it sees. Upgrading the suspension (lowered springs, better shock absorbers and thicker anti-roll bars) will make the car handle better and better brakes (and that usually just means good pads) will let you go further towards the corner at a higher speed because you can slow down quicker.

And £400 spent on a high-speed driving course will probably make you faster than any remap, and it lasts for every car you ever have.

By all means get a remap, but do it after you have sorted the rest of the car and the loose nut behind the wheel!

My fabia 54 plate. Im not wanting to race with the fabia or do anything stupid with it, just looking for that power that will really annoy other bigger petrol cars. After the remap power wise i wouldnt want to push it any further. So brakes need replacing to counter act the power anything else?

Not quite up with the engine lingo yet so please keep fairly basic!!!
