Passenger side window fault

Featured Replies

I am currently experience a problem with my passenger side window. I have completed a number of searches as to potential problems but none have had the same.

The problem - if the passenger side window is lowered (even the smallest amount) and you try to pull the window back up the window will automatically shoot to the bottom in the fully open position. if i then pull it up (switch) again it climbs to halfway and stops, if i pull the button up again the window heads straight down again, where, at this point it will come up but excessively slow (by this i mean literally a millimetre everytime the button is pulled) and sounds like there is excessive strain on the motor and it sometimes does what is mentioned before where it will stop and then head down again. it does not make any crunching noises where the fault might be the runners, so i have pretty much narrowed it to a nakerd motor or electrical fault somewhere between the switch and mechanism but previous to this happening the drivers switch would control the window without problem where the passenger switch would have caused the problem. Now its both. I have checked fuses etc with no success and have heard that basically its the entire window mechanism which needs replaced but thought i would post here first and see if there is any quick cheap fixes.

apologies about the long post (this is my first time posting on here) and also if it does not make any sense

thanks in advance

Thanks Collyirwin11 for asking the exact same quesiton as I wanted to and Moggytech for the reply. I took my car into the garage recently and asked them to check my passenger window out. I think all they did was oil it as it worked once and then went back to the same old problem. Another skoda user told me to check this site out and my first search on yahoo led me to this thread - perfect. Thankyou.

Following on from my last post.....had a new window regulator mech fitted and it now works a treat but took me ages to persuade the mechanic that this was what was needed!!

I made the mechanic sit in the car and move the window up and down. At first there was nothing wrong with it and then lo and behold it stuck, and the more the mechanic tried the worse it got!! I think he thought I was imagining the problem until it stuck with him. It stuck midway, then wouldn't come up at all, then wouldn't come down...but for ages he kept saying it was a programming error and wouldn't listen to me (presumably because I was female and had researched here first.) Just glad I 've got the replacement and it now works fine.

You can get pattern ones from Eurocar parts and other suppliers.

I have used both pattern and Skoda parts. Original ones are around £70 and the pattern ones are between £40 and £55.
