Boot wont stay closed

Featured Replies

Has anyone come across this before?

My bootlid closes fine but thecatch does not keep it closed or locked (you can just lift the boot open again) it did it once last week but went back to 'normal' after a couple of closes, but it's now doing it again.

The wire loop part of the mechanism (the bit under the flap on the car) is the correct height - still tight and i have also adjusted it which made no difference. So im thinking it's got to be the catch on the boot? as it's closing correctly just not locking or staying on the catch.

Any ideas?

Oh and i don't suppose it is the same part No. as the ones fitted to the MK5 Golf - as i have a spare one of them!!

Can't help with the part number, but my first Superb did that a few times and it was the solenoid playing up, it was either keeping it open or closed.

Might be worth looking at the mechanism on the boot lid itself, it prises off, but dont forget the two screws in the pull down handles which need to be removed, and I think you have to take the warning triangle out too.

I'm likely to regret making such a simple suggestion I know but everything is well lubricated right? Had something similar on my BMW 325i. Part of the retaining mech had dust and grime build up on the factory grease .... a liberal amount of WD40 solved it.

Try the key in the boot lock a few times to op the motor, also try the key in the door that locks out everything as well, other than that you are going to need an auto leccy to determine if it's a unit or wiring fault.

All sorted

It turned out that the spring had broken, meaning that once the boot had been opened the mechanism could not return to the closed/locked position, the broken part was the bit circled in red below, i unwound the spring one turn (it has 4 coils, compared to just 1 on a Golf, so i am happy that 3 coils will be enough) and reshaped the end to the shape i imagine the spring was originally.
