I'm Struggling ......

Featured Replies

I have a race blue FL VRS estate. I cant understand how you think it looks inferior to a Mazda 6. I have had people complimenting me on its looks and these are drivers of top notch BMW and Audi. Go and take one out for a rattle and you will be converted.

I agree Finlay - I have recently joined the Octavia club - the L & K looks really good with its unique alloys.

I thought about a 3rd Mazda 6 but the current model isn't that good looking and is quite big - looks quite a bland Jap motor - I had two of the previous Mazda 6 and that I thought was a really nice looking motor - certainly better than the current model.

We need to talk :)

haha for what i was going to spend on an STI and tuning for it, I can go and buy a sensible diesel family wagon for 5k, and 3.5K will get me a clio 172 cup, and then throw 3-4k at it, s

trip out the weight from the interior , and there will not be much on a track that will give you the grin factor like it. the missus seems more keen on me doing it this way

Sorry, but if this is bland, I'm a Chelsea supporter

What does FL stand for?

FL = facelift

in a straightline of course, the STI was streets ahead of my vRS and ive got a full raft of suspension mods.

sounds to me you need an impreza again. i drove the STI and dynamically was hugely impressed. prefered the engine of the vRS (@ my spec that is) though.

I do want another Impreza - I love them.

But, as I have pointed out elsewhere, we have a German Shepherd Dog ... and the boot in the Impreza has its floor too high - the dog won't fit ..... I am really saddened by that.

The Impreza WRX-S is £21,500 and no discounts are available.

The Octavia vRS gets a great write up, has a HUGE boot and can be had for £15,200 .... it's the thinking mans choice, no mistake. But it would never get my pulse racing, I don't think?

Who is your favourite player?

Drogba? Lampard? Terry?

I really must be missing it ..... it looks like a Merc. from the side shot - I also find Mercs. bland (the normal run of the mill versions)

Maybe it's just a personal thing ... you probably think this looks awful?

2006-subaru-impreza-s204-front-angle-view-588x441.jpg

i track mine alot mate, and it is fantastic.

the reason for me selling was mainly as to go past 280Hp you need to upgrade the turbo, whichj will be pushing your vRS past 330Hp. now i didnt want the turbo upgrade hence the look around for an STI. the clause for me was it had to be used as an everyday car.

the missus flat out doesnt want me to get the impreza as i quote"you lok like a tit in it, and i wont drive it", so im going for the two car approach. good dielel runaround, with a cheap track mobile

Maybe it's just me, but I really don't get what the purpose of this thread is! If I described a car as being bland/like a taxi, there'd be no decision to make - I'd rule it out and move on.

Everyone has their own taste on a car, else everyone would all be driving the same car! Sounds to me like you need to move on to the other options tbh, as it's clear you've already made the decision - whether you realise it or not yet yourself of course! :)

I don't think there's anything that would convince you to go for it based on your comments so far as they are 80% negative. As much as I like the Octavia vRS and think it's spot on, I just think you've subconsciously already made up your mind.

Job done. Decision made.

The thread title is catching

I'm struggling to understand why you started the thread in the first place :dull:

Maybe .... I just wanted to see if I was missing something ... like "Everyone lowers it" or "Everyone specifies this BodyKit" or "Everyone puts these wheels on" .................... something to make it appealing in some way (to me, that is!).

Now, I used to like the Yellow ones many years ago .... that could swing it into attractive territory? I have yet to see a yellow in real life.

Does Leather trim come as standard?

Does Leather trim come as standard?

I'm not sure - I haven't ridden in a taxi for years

Nope, leather is optional. Can't remember the exact price but in the region of ~£600-700 I think.

Oh, right ... OK

I'm going to be the butt of Taxi Cab jokes now ... fair enough, I asked for it

Like I said, Bland was a fairer word .... sorry lads.

The yellow one looks amazing as far as I'm concerned, I just wasn't brave enough to get one as I had visions of our customers wondering who they were about to let loose on their computer systems when they saw me get out of the bright yellow car... and then not leaving me alone to get on with my job

I'd also had to have changed the wheels to black if I'd have got a yellow one

The standard seats are part leather, full leather is an option (as is the yellow paint)

Have you considered a Subaru Legacy Spec B Sports Tourer? A newish used one would be about the same price as a new vRS on DtD but will come with full leather, huge sunroof, more options and that AWD handling. It is bigger than the vRS Estate, but of course you will be back in the mid-20s mpg combined and below 20mpg when having fun and the car tax would be £400+. It could be converted to LPG for about £1600. More details on UKLegacy.com

But he thinks a vRS looks bland :o

I can understand the point your trying to put across about the subaru as i have said before,i am also an ex scooby owner came from the STI to the VRS last march so i have had the octy almost a year now and not regreted it..I thought the VRS actually looked quite good, and all my mates at work liked it too, just as much as my mates golf gt sport which he paid around 22 grand for with all the extras, satnav etc.I think part of your problem maybe that you have been with subaru for so long it's a car you like driving,it's become a car you can trust and rely on,i know exactly what your saying about the performance..You just have to make a decision and stick by it otherwise you'll be pulling your hair out before long,so when i got rid of the scoob i just said i don't want a bmw,did consider an audi, didn't want a golf although the VRS is partly golf gti and wasn't too keen on other cars other than going back to the impreza.I just wondered into the local skoda dealer, took a VRS for a test drive thought this is pritty damn quick, liked the style and got an absolute bargain of a new car compared for that price range and still got the performance..You just got to get out of that frame of mind and realise it's not an impreza and nobody here or anywhere can convince you to like it,you just got to have an open mind about it,good luck.. ;)

taxi anybody! NOT

personally i think taxi drivers who drive skodas say it all

reliable,strong,frugal,great looks and much more

Not so long ago I had the chance to thrash a Carrera round a track. Sometime before that I test drove an Octavia.

Now I am not suggesting that there is any common ground between the two cars but in both cases I realised I couldn't remember the colour of the car afterwards. Made me realise that a whole lot of my judgement of a car is based on how it feels to drive. To be fair I couldn't really care what other people think about my opinion but I found the Octavia to be reasonably attractive, the design is staid but has a compelling build quality and an overall feel of "just rightness" about it. Never driven a scooby but personally find them very unattractive from the outside. Perhaps if I had driven one I would have ended up driving round in something bright blue and yellow with a polished luggage rack on the back.

You have to decide what is most important to you and then discount all the bits you don't really care about.

I liek the Subaru Legacy 3.0R but don't want to do 20mpg at best for the same performance as I can get from the vRS at 30+mpg.

I've had 3 imprezas, the last one was an STI and an S4 Avant before getting my vRS. Performance wise the Octy is on par with the subarus even in the twisties where understeer is a lot less severe (everyone knows scoobies understeer) build quality and space wise it is leagues ahead. The Audi, however is a different car, not a better car just different.

I decided to sell my Audi and go down the Skoda route to enable me to be able to buy and run a second car. the Skoda has been reliable(ECU replacement aside!) and cheap to run (compared to my subarus and Audi) and if you can get over the badge what you have is an excellent well rounded car.

I'm looking at buying a 911s as my second car but will always have an Octavia vRS as my main car.

My advice is take one out, buy it and if you're still sceptical after a month then trade it in.

Dolla - wise words, thank you. After 10 years with Subaru I guess you are right - it becomes part of you, especially as it has been faultless.

As said before ... Badge isn't an issue, although I do recognise that Subaru Impreza's are the stuff of folklore.

Looked over an Insignia today .... very, very nice - VXR is an option (but are £24k) ... did anyone look at the VXR's before buying the vRS?

No, because like your dislike of Octavia's I have a loathing of almost everything with a Vauxhall badge on it...

Plus if you're worried about reliability, Vauxhall is not the way to go... You may as well buy an Alfa :)

If I was going to get a repmobile, it'd be a Mondeo... Although if the Focus had a decent diesel engine then I'd have been very tempted...

My car is my mode of transport, a tool of the trade, it has to get me from A to B in comfort, but have enough go and handling for the times I want to have fun, but still be affordable to run. On my current mileage that pretty much means a diesel and I'm not a fan of the 140 Ford diesel when for similar money I can get the VAG 170...

MrRee, I've read the whole thread and your heart isn't in it. I don't think you are a badge snob but I'm wondering are you a Subaru snob??? Fact is, there is nothing other than an EVO that will challenge you on the road, but if you need to move on, you need to move on - deal with it!!!
