Fabia v 1000bhp

Featured Replies

Amanda are you driving the 123d M sport? B)

According to evo mag:

BMW 123d M Sport (5dr)

max bhp/rpm = 201/4400

weight = 1495kg

0 - 60 = 6.5sec

top speed = 148

If so I think there is every chance of spanking any mapped furby all day long :thumbup:

I wouldn't use "spanked", but don't race that crazy woman!

Hi Lady P/E. *Waves*

The 123d had longer legs than the Shifty mobile, better traction on the day for sure, a determined and very competent driver, and generally made me feel quite sad that i'd spent so much cash on a Skoda, and not bought a BMW.

The actual paper figures would suggest the Fabia should have been 3/4 of a second faster to 60 mph, and also had a higher top speed. Reality proved otherwise as Lady E sat right up my arse, possibly could have passed me as I struggled for traction, and then harassed me on the autobahn to speeds where she clearly had the aerodynamics and smooth german power to pull away.

So, all in all, I'm in awe of the 123d, fabulous car, great performance as standard, and totally irrelevant to this thread. It's the beer talking.....or something.

More relevant, the shopping car did easily keep up with an Astra VXR in a road race when only on a badly mapped stage 1 turbo. So I believe the OP when he said his pal in the gashtra couldn't keep up. Lets not forget reaction time. The same applies for acceleration as does to braking. You see the car in front go, you go, car in front already has the advantage, no matter what it is.

While we are admiring each others cars, can I say that one of the biggest mistakes I made at work, was to tell a colleague how once you removed your Blackpool Illuminations from the Shifty mobile, you pulled away from me on the ‘special’ road. “Your BMW was burnt off by a Skoda!!!”. I still get it from him and a few others :D Somehow I don’t think they will ever understand. Wish you could have taken them for a spin on your back roads. That would have shut them up :D

Had this happen last night when leaving work. A young ‘thruster’ that I had been working with, tried to out-drag me on a motorway in his slightly unloved Volvo estate (3 people in it as well). By the time I realised he was going for it, it was already too late. I eventually started to claw him back, but by the time I had caught him our acceleration was blunted by highish speeds and we were closing in on traffic (on the motorway). The result was although I felt I could show I had a quicker car, his jumping the gun by a couple of seconds and the slowing of accelerations due to speed, meant the difference looked almost insignificant. If it had been some sort of race I would have lost. However in a perfect side by side world on an autobahn, he would have been left staring at my cute little rump :D

Goes to show…………when only one person knows they are ‘racing’ then in truth, probably only one person is.
