Remote central locking problem

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a Mk1 Octavia vRS its an 05 reg, The only known fault with the car is the drivers door does not open on the remote fob, you have to use the key and open/close it manually, every other door works fine on the remote ! any hints or tips would be great - I have noticed the door knob does not go flush with the trim when it is closed also and all of the others do.

cheers

It sounds like the problem is probably in the lock mechanism, or a weak solonoid (presumes no other issues with locking, windows, door open light, front courtesy lights).

door motor failed by the sounds of it £80 from skoda easy to fit

Clive, is that the motor inside the door lock mechanism as I have the same problem plus my key no longer works in the door either :(

I'd presume the term motor to actually mean solonoid here. There are similarities in how they're made, but a solonoid is a device for pushing a rod between 2 posiitons, or turning a cam between 2 positions, whereas a motor is for driving a shaft round and round. Now which does an actuator for central locking sound more like?

Also James, the mirror adjuster on these cars is complex. In the LH position, it moves the LH mirror. In the RH position it does (or should anyway) move both mirrors together, and in the central posiiton it isolates the mirror servomotors and connects the heaters, which then come on when you switch the HRW on. If your RH mirror doesn't move, I'm now wondering if you have a problem with water ingress on the driver's door loom connectors. Only one way to be sure about that though I'm afraid; remove the door card and look!

Cheers Ken soem good points, the pics on the other thread of how to take it all apart and what to look for, if its not raining tomor I may have a go !!! watch this space.....

Right, took the door apart, no signs of corrosion anywhere so I guess I need to locate a new or second hand motor ?

Tried a secondhand lock/motor unit - no joy, it stil doesnt work ! any more ideas??

ive just got this problem myself. i too have tried a new lock to no solution. iam going to start checking the wires running through the door at some point soon.

iam guessing that as when you turn the key in the lock it locks all the other doors and as its a negative pulse system i would guess that it is a problem with the positive power supply to the solenoid itself.

ive just been down to check and my drivers mirror doesn't move either. that is really freaky!!! lol

thanks!!! lol

it maybe that the control unit is knackered and not the motor ? or the motor i got is duff, its all fun and games........

the chances of us both having identical problems, and both putting new 'duff' motors in? thats not very likely.

i do reckon its a wiring fault some where, we just need to find it as its possible that every other car out there is going to get this problem at some point. we are just getting ours over and done with now. lol

can you do me a favour and remove the kick panel on the right hand side of the drivers foot well and take the door multi plug apart and see if you have any corrosion in there?

I take it the blue crusty residue was not causing the problem as you still have the fault now then ?

Hi had a look under the kick plates today - found no multi plug ? just a bunch of cables running to the rear of the car ? where exactly is this multi plug ?

cheers

James,

Octavia door/electrics problem sound similar.........The lock/actuator fitted was known to be good......key in lock controlled all locks, switched interior light, courtesy light (bottom of door) and dash door-open indicator.Lock-on -red flashing indicator (top of Door) and remote not working ,

Remove drivers door and rere r/h door cards, locate wirng to drivers actuator grey/black and yellow/black,,,,,,,,,grey and yellow rere door.Run a suitable 2-core wire between these, cutting and jointing in parrallel. You can check for working by cnnecting up before hideing the wire ........thro` door gaters and under plastic mouldings, unclip and replace.

Hope this is of help! Brendan,

Yes it is making little more sense - basically then you are running a wire from the rear drivers side door motor to the cable that goes into the motor on the drivers door itself ( the one which wont open remotely?) this then i take it by passes the control unit thingy in the middle of the drivers door and any of the wiring prior, as it appears this is somewhere, where the fault is... if this makes sense ??

cheers

If you think you've got it bad now....

just wait until it gets progressively worse... i started with the exact same symptoms as you both describe... Drivers door lock will not lock on remote/ drivers door mirror will not operate or heat, but the passenger side does....

This i lived with for sometime (i know i know, i should have sorted it but didnt )

It very recently moved onto the rear door actuators (or whatevere they are) making a clicking sound as though trying to lock, whilst driving... this in turn has had the knock on effect (i presume it is this as the battery was ok before hearing these strange noises) to leaving me with a flat battery.

But something else is that when i did get car started with starter/ charger... went for a long run to try and put some life back into battery.... havent used car since (Sunday just gone) came to car tonight to check and rear doors unlocked, but they were obviously not left like that sunday :o

not good... mines going into Bickerton's skoda tuesday... i believe it will be the door control module, from all the threads ive read on the subject before today :)

i dont know why... but i seem to remember a figure of £150 - 180 for the control module.... just from memory though of other threads when some have purchased and carried out the work themselves...

but please dont hold me to that... :)

oh and i also seem to remember some say that they had left their cars in a car park, and come back to rolled down windows too... scary thought that one... especially this time of year

and i certainly will update when sorted

cheers

just so you know mate.. but you may have read my thread in this forum anyhow...

it just got a whole lot worse for my car lol windows rolling down issue :o

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi Guys, freaky still, my 04 VRS has the same problem with the remote locking and mirror's ... in addition the headlight adjustment roller dial does'nt work either..... just waiting for the windows to roll down on their own now...LOL... taking it to the local dealer to see what the issue is.... trying all the good info o your threads.... still no joy so going to bite the bullet and take it in.... but will let you know what they find out.

if its the door control unit thats affecting your central locking and mirrors... then am afraid you are in for a big repair bill if you let skoda do it :(

if new window regulator/door module hasn't fixed it you'll need a new drivers door loom and central convenience unit

known common fault - bill will be £300+ :(
