It's not easy, you know..........

Featured Replies

.........trying to run-in my vRS! Found myself creeping into the 3K mark a couple of times. It's soooooo smooth & eager to rev, you don't know you're doing it!

190 miles on the clock so far, not bad for 4 days.

I'm doing my best to stick to the 'Honest John' method (as discussed on here somewhere). That extends the running-in up to 4000 miles. Nearly there now, but to be honest, I have sacrificed running in carefully for safe overtaking etc. on more than one occasion. Concensus on here seems to be divided as to whether it's necessary to go to such lengths, but everyone agrees it's worth sticking to the guidelines in the manual (i.e. no more than 3/4 revs up to 1000 miles, then gently up to full revs for mext 500, IIRC).

Your car will thank you in the long run - plus, a bit of restraint now should help improve performance later!!! :)

But I agree, the Fab vRS pull very eagerly even when brand new, so the temptation is hard to resist! ;)

I'm sticking to the guidelines in the hand book & also my own, i.e. light 'throttle' applications & shifting up @ 2K until the engine temp is at normal & then varying engine speeds, but not taking it over 3K or use full 'throttle' for the first 1000 miles.

IMO if you are too gentle with it, it will just take even longer to run in. Wait until the oil is up to temp, and then just drive normally IMO.

Believe me, I'm not being too gentle! Just limiting myself to 3K.

i have done 3000 miles since the 24-9 th oops lol

1500 miles in 2 weeks for me and running in is a real hardship!

it be ok for me but thats all been done on the weekends and i havent been anywhere fsince the 30th :) except the 4 miles each way to work

Should be able to rack up another 500 miles next weekend. Going to see a mate in Milton Keynes, so I'll be able to use the cruise control on the long stretch, a.k.a. the M1!

Milton Keynes ey? No doubt ill see you, ill race you if I do, that'l make you exceed your 3K rev limit :D
