Roof bars for an estate ?

Featured Replies

I have used the search function but cant seem to find what im after.

Im after a set of roof bars for my 07 Octavia estate, but im after a set that fit the roof rails like a glove. I do have some on at the mo, but there are gaps all round the fixings to the rails.

Can anyone recommend a set of bars that actually fit the rails ?

Cheers,

Paul

Not quite sure what you mean by the gaps, but I have a set of Thule aerobars & I am very happy with the fit & function

I mean roof bar feet that fit the profile of the roof rail perfectly with no gaps.

Why do manufacturers say they do Skoda roof bars, when in essance they would fit any car with roof rails ?

I had some genuine Ford ones on my old Mondeo estate that fitted the profile of the rails perfectly.

I have been looking at this: Whispbar Rail Bar

http://www.whispbar.co.uk/roofracks/whispbar

Expensive but silent.

I've fitted (ie adjusted to size) the roof bars that I had for my Omega, and the clamps on them seemed to fit very well. Not actually needed to use them yet, so I don't know whether they will whistle in the wind..

They were given to me by the owner of an Astra estate when I had my previous Omega, so they must have been before 1992 (oops 2002, I mean) vintage.

I'd have thought they'd be cheap on ebay.

The roof bars I had on a Nissan Primera estate (P10) years ago fit the roof rails on my Octavia perfectly :)

They are Nissan branded but are actually Thule, not sure what the part number of the foot pack is unfortunately.

? Skoda OE roof bars would be your best bet surely..?

I have a set on my 2010 Vrs Estate: part number LAS620002A perfect fit as you would expect.

;)

I have a set of Atera aero bars that fit very snugly and have minimum noise

Im sure, but at £138 they are a tad expensive esp as they will be made by another company and just badged as Skoda.

Who make the Skoda badged ones ?

Thule - and I'm pretty certain they are simply 755 feet and standard bars...

They probably are Thule, but they are aero shaped bars rather than std.

Quick check on the web - the skoda bars are not the same as the recommeded thule items according to this page, but other than a slight difference in the foot its pretty much the same sort of thing:

http://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehsel4_tab.php/roofbars/thule_rapid_system_roof_rail_clamps_4_no_757/Qx%40w%2C6M4gNax5vN1Yv0vegd3uHlxS6YmsXh0Esfz4%40FEdzm%60o%7BEB%7B8_arpF%7Ds%60HJ

80 quid so you save 50 vs the skoda OE bars, not bad :)

I think that the Skopda bars are made by Atera

I have some roof bars for an estate (albeit a mark1) for sale on eBay. Where are you? You'd be welcome to try them out for size if you're near?

They are Thule roofbars badged as Skoda.

Hi Paul,

I'm in Driffield, just north of Hull. I'll ask a friend of mine if I can see if they fit his 56/7 Scout - would that be the same roof rails as yours?

I'm up and down the country a fair bit though, mostly dropping off/collecting kids so could divert off a bit to meet you somewhere if that's a help?

Cheers

Martin

The Skoda ones are Thule with aero cross bar and standard roof rail feet. The Thule ones are cheaper. They do not fit the rail so as to leave no gaps, unlike some that may be made for a particular rail. Though why this matters when you have a roof box, or cycles on top I fail to see. They should not be left on otherwise as they will use about an extra 10% fuel. Believe me the Thule, or any one else's, bars are perfectly good enough. The Skoda ones for MkI Octavia were also NOT made for that car, just badged Skoda.

It matters for 2 reasons,

1) I carry a canoe on top so the feet need to fit the rail like a glove for extra security.

2) principle- why market something as fitting an octavia when in reality it would fit any car !

No 2 does anoy me though

 Try Halfords they have the Thule ones in and their own make which I have bought and they fit the Scout roof bars OK, they even do a cheap range but they look a bit flimsey. cheers - Stuart B)

I need to answer!

Number 1 - the bars sold by Thule, and others, will be as secure as any, whether there is a gap at any point, or not. They are also available with locks. Canoes, being very light will require less security than a heavy roof box! I carried a roof box and two mountain bikes on my Thule bars for holidays for 6 years, without issue.

Number 2 - OK maybe, but if they were they would have to be much more expensive, the ones sold are much better value and can be used with other cars, or the Mk3 when it comes out!
