Jammed Drivers Side Door Lock Nuts

Featured Replies

Hi.

I've unfortunately hit the good old problem of corroded cables where they leave the Drivers side door enter the main body, which i have happily replaced.

However, i'm now stuck with another issue - the old cable between the indoor latch and the door lock broke and i've got a new cable, but i can't get the old door lock off to put the new one on as the 2 bolts/screws have their head strips.

Is there anything i can do to fit the new cable without taking out the door lock?

Thanks in advance,

I've got a feeling when I replaced the Bowden cable on mine I did it without taking out the lock as I managed to knacker the two large hex head bolts trying to get them out.

I think what I ended up doing was using some pliers to bend the thin bit of metal (part of the door) above the lock assembly outward slightly enough to get some long needle nose pliers in to unclip the remains of the old cable and then clip in the new one. Then bent the metal back flat as best I could, gave it a lick of primer as I'd scratched it quite badly and covered the whole mess up by putting the door card back on :D Not very pretty but it did the job and saved having to drill out the bolts holding the lock assembly in.

I was looking at that piece of metal thinking pliers and some bending might be the best option to get to it... i managedto get the old cable out with a bit of wiggling, but no chance in hell of getting the new one in that way!

As the car is now 12 years old, and i've already caught the door paint with an angle grinder, a bit more scratching ain't going to be that much of a problem!

drill the bolts out takes a couple of mins thats what i did and replaced the bolts easy job

There's nowt worse than having your nuts jamming

I managed to change my cable by wiggling the old one out, and then wiggling the new one in, took a bit of patience though!
