Boot opening - A discussion

Lady P----------- SLIGHTLY off topic but vaguely boot related............Are the leather covers hanging down in the pictures the genuine Skoda accessory "Boot Cover" (DMK630001)? I was looking to purchase this for my Yeti (when it eventually arrives next month).

My dealer gave me the impression they were velcro fixings but it appears to be clips on your photo. I also did not realise they hung down quite so much into the boot area.

They also appear to slightly overlap in the centre, again the dealer (and the web image from Skoda) indicates they only cover the area behind the outer seats as only these tilt and slide with the centre one being fixed.

How do you find them in practice, worth fitting?

Regards,

Del

Hi Del

The covers hanging down are indeed the "boot cover behind rear seats" (DMK630001 dealer charged £21.46) is used to stop people looking into the boot area when the rear seats are slid forward away from the parcel shelf.

I haven't really paid too much attention to them yet so not sure if they are meant to hang down or if there is an installation ****-up. I'm also not sure not sure how it functions when moving outer seats forward independently of the centre seat. Will check it out at the weekend when I see the car in daylight! (have xenons so travel by night!)

I originally assumed that the cover was going to be a vertical cover behind the rear seats to stop passengers seeing the boot clutter plus stop stuff flying out of the boot when the centre seat is folded down... but unforunately not.

Thanks, look forward to an update when you can try the seat / cover functionality out in the daylight.

Lady P - Great pics, thank you. The boot ones in particular are useful for people, like me, who have not gone for the spare wheel. Would you please ask Parker to take a picture with the boot up so that I can see how far the lid goes, what angle it is at? Someone advised it would keep you dry if it was raining. I remember it being more vertical than that but I may well be wrong.

Hi Harvey,

Parker has been busy today! Photo of boot up...and yes it looks ideal for keeping the Pimms undiluted under :giggle:

Please, next time you are there with camera would you also take a picture of the undershelf netting. I have two long nets and was hoping one would fit under the shelf but cannot see how it fixes in place. I suspect that it is a different shelf.

thanks

Hi Del,

Parker has been having fun today :giggle: with his boot cover behind rear seats Skoda ref: DMK630001. He has the seats tipped forward, slid forward and all combinations I think... I had to go and have a lie down it was too much for me :(

Our conclusion is that it does an acceptable job of covering the gap between the parcel shelf and back seats, so passers by cannot see in your boot, when the 2 back side seats are slid or tipped forward. This means you do not see it hanging down the back of the seats as in previous photos/post. And as you rightly say the middle seat does not slide forward and so the 2 pieces of this cover each have a cut out area which fits around the headrest of the middle seat. However when the middle seat is tipped forward and the 2 side rar seats only slid forward there is a huge gap!

The cover is attached to the headrest pillars?(-not sure if correct terminology!) of the 2 outer back rear seats by black plastic clips which are very secure and the other end to the edge of the parcel shelf by small metal clips which seem to ping off quite easily. They do hang down in an unsightly way though when the seats are in normal or reclined position although you only see this when the boot is up!! There is no velcro and they do just slightly overlap.

If I was designing this accessory to get over the problem of people seeing in the boot when the seats are slid forward... I would have fixed the parcel shelf to the headrests with clips and had an extending flimsy cover on a roller under the rear of the parcel shelf which would pull out like a blind to cover the exposed area to the back window and just drop into 2 cutout slots either side in the boot frame  but maybe there are reasoms this would not work and heh I'm not a car accessory designer! best wishes

Just like that Tom your wish is granted

This is the Net under parcel shelf Skoda ref DMK630002

It is basically like a tight scarf around the parcel shelf which is stitched together at the sides but has the net underneath and a zip compartment on the top.

Great for keeping the brolly etc in ...as things can get so easily lost in such a cavernous boot such as Yetis B)

The 2 long nets which were included with our Yeti are shown on the Muscovado thread I think-one goes on the floor of the boot and one either at the front or the back of the boot. The smaller 3rd net goes on the left hand side and then you have the plastic semi circle container thingy on the right!

Hope this helps

Lady P, I think that you a beginning to rival the great TP with this level of public service. Now whch one of you will be first with a close up of your cylinder bores?:D

thanks for the pics of the parcel shelf net lady P.

Been intending to order one of those myself; I was under the impression that it would be held to the underside by a frame, think I like the 'scarf' idea better :)

Regard supplied boot nets, mine only came with two in a pack (possibly as I have the spare option) although my dealer very kindly gave me another pack so I now have 4

The boot floor cover is a cheap thing I came across at Tesco in the car section; also doubles as a very large bag with a zip and carry handles at one end, reasonable water resistant to.

Now Shrub- that is soooo unfair  What on earth is a cylinder bore... :o

ok I've googled it...and I need a new camera attachment for that :giggle:

Hi shrub,

bit late in the evening for a top end strip down

Anyway closest to hand I can find to fit the bill being a piston, will not quite fit a Yeti though; Rolls Royce Merlin (27 ltr approx) V12 B)

PS included a pen to help with the scale.

Lady P- What can I say, you are a star.

The images and description of the boot cover and parcel shelf are fantastic. Thank you for taking the time to post these excellent photo`s.

Del

One thing I found with the back seat 'gap' cover was that it made a creaking rustling sound all the time. It's now stowed next to my spare wheel ready for action when required.

Lady P

Thanks. I thought it was just the net underneath, hadn't realised there was a bit on top as well.

As an aside:

A few years ago if you looked up Civil Engineers in the Yellow Pages it said:

"See Boring"

true!!!

  • 1 month later...

Well well, I learnt two things today. A that there is a parcel shelf compartment on TOP of the shelf and B that the middle seat can't slide forward! Eeck! I have awkward round camping things to fit and had hoped that the two seats on one side could be slid forward leaving one outter one for a passenger... Well it seems I will have to leave the middle seat at home then. emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

How about a side opening boot door with integral seperate opening window to pop the little things in and with a full size spare wheel on the boot door and with a level boot floor to sill opening so you can sit down..?

If you answered yes please! :p

- cancel your yeti order and go buy a Honda CRV :giggle:

One of the benefits of the top opening lid is the shelter it gives when trying to unload shopping in the rain. On a previous car (the Terrano I think) I wired a light to the inside door panel to be used when I supported our local Scout troup on their night activities. (Mobile soup and butty kitchen)

I use the bumper to sit on and it is quite comfortable!!

My Smart car has the fold down split boot lid, with extra storage in the fold down bit and it also gives a weight limit for people to sit on, counts me out as I will lift the front end, but then again no big deal there getting it back down, any smaller and I'd be able to put it under my arm and walk away with it lol
