Turning This Forum Into A Proper Club!!

Featured Replies

After speaking to Tavia4x4 on Friday we spoke about it would be nice to create a bona fide owners Club with members paying a small fee for the upkeep etc...

This would allow us to attend car events in this format, maybe even get Skoda backing???

What do you all think...

CLUB SKODA

or

Club vRS

or even

Club BriSkoda...

With you 100% on this - I'm fairly new to Skoda but I think the time is right.

Is

Sounds like a great idea. Perhaps this is the next logical step. Get a club running, get to a few shows and get the interest levels in Skoda up in the general public! :D

I'm certainly up for a membership pack

Sounds like a neat idea.

However...

Would have to be careful with the name.

There already is a "Skoda owners club", their web-site is not as organised/inter-active as this one (in fact it is just plain boring)

http://www.skoda-owners-club.co.uk/

I also think they might get a nod and a wink from Skoda as there bumber sticker sports the company logo - I saw one in the back of an Octy the other week.

Yes - but not Club Skoda - that sounds like a manufacturer sponsored thing. I'm sure there's an official Skoda owners club - why not join that?

This group doesn't feel like an official owner's club. More of a self-motivated community than that.

Certainly not club VRS - not everyone (certainly not the webmasters) has one.

What would a club do for its members that isn't already accomplished by the website? I'm happy to contribute to the upkeep of the website but I am less keen on the idea of spending money just for the sake of a newsletter or whatever. I like the free format generated by the community on here.

The same kind of thing applies in the Porsche world - there is the official club - glossy magazine and some self-congratulatory meets - lots of wax and yuppies in fancy clothes - and then there are the web communitites - guys who help each other with technical tips and meet every now and then informally for a drive or a pub lunch or a blast up the drag strip. Very different kettles of salmon.

Why not club Skoda?? Club Audi came from the Volkswagen Audi mag...

The Audi owners club shows that this could work...

Attending big VW shows, and Big car shows, with the support of Audi UK, means that nice corporate stand with a A4 quattro racer there + loads of videos and promotional stufff.

Also by getting ( Hopefully ) support if only by the odd WRC Octavia at shows ... Then Skoda UK could benefit....

Tee-Shirts ... Annual meets......

Why not ......

Gives the Skoda brand a boost.....

Club Skoda.... Or Club Briskoda.....

Dazz

I kind of feel that Briskoda is already a club and am quite willing to contribute towards upkeep etc.

I suppose it depends on what do you mean by club and what we want to achieve out of it.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Adrian.

Why not take a pragmatic approach? The UK's Skoda enthusiasts should get something out of a club, on top of what the web community is already giving them. You don't need newsletters (the forum is infinitely faster) or merchandise (you already have the stickers!), but a firm foot in the door at Skoda UK - all in the friendliest possible way, of course.

So if cuddling up to Skoda UK could result in the introduction of importer-approved performance enhancements, I would see no evil in a Club for brisk Skoda drivers...

As a member of the Skoda Owners CLub GB for over 20 years I can assure you that the club use of the logo follows strict guidlines issued by Skoda Auto CZ and UK. The club has been running since 1962 so has managed to survive 40 years, has strong links with other Skoda Owners clubs and the company throughout Europe . The reason being people have to be dedicated to something not just a flash in the pan new idea that falls by the wayside. I agree that the SKODaA Owners Club needs bringing into the Web age but things have to be done carefully and tactfully so as not to upset its heritage and dedicated following of owners of all Skodas old and new.

Club Skoda is already used by Skoda CZ its a kind of Club thats got a loyalty card that can be used in the supermarket at least in Mlada Boleslav - I think you will also see refrernce to it on Skoda CZ's web site.

Oh, and Dazz is right - Audi are wonderful towards their enthusiasts clubs.

Last year, on the 20th anniversary of the quattro, quattro clubs from all over Europe were invited to a huge party in Ingolstadt, with no limit to expenses, as Audi bigwigs were also attending.

However, the organizers were absolutely aghast at the number of people showing up. They stocked up food and drinks for a couple of dozen people, but there were hundreds and hundreds! There was panic all over as they raided all of Ingolstadt's catering services, but the Audi boffins were cool about it and were the perfect host.

Everyone was given the full tour of the production line, test drives in the latest quattro machinery, and in the end there was ample food for the next two days.

Pure class.

(And no, I don't think it's a coincidence that, shortly after, Audi marketing and advertising has stepped up the involvement of the Audi/Auto Union heritage to exploit and further enhance Audi's brand identity.)

Alright lets take a step back...

Most people still have there heads in the past with regards to Skoda....

Volkswagen shows and other mainstream shows have no attendance from Skoda's ...

This website is not advertised, promoted or pushed to the wider

market....

Hence the meagre member count here will continue..

We need to promote SKODA...

I was invloved in the 20th year quattro stuff, Audi UK supported us ( Audi owners club ) at the Birmingham Classic car show @ the NEC.. They lent us a ex A4 quattro race car and loads of promotional stuff.. With this and the members cars on the stand

it went very nicely....

What is there to lose??

the VRS owners club sounds like a good idea, even better when the fabia's are out.

and none of them 4x4 wannabees either ;)

I really like "Club vRS" or "vRS Owners Club"

It could stand for various Rapid Skodas - so can include everybody :)

Apart from 1.4 and 1.6 owners :D

Rob.

:( @ the 1.4s being excluded

Rob.

And the 1.8T owners who just don't happen to have the "right" badge on theirs :(

I'll echo a few other members comments and say that I would contribute to make Briskoda more of an 'online' club. The definition of a club is the tricky bit. I'd say we've sort of got one started already.

Not keen at all on the RS/vRS bit even though that's what I drive. Some of the most active (newer) members drive Fabias or other Octavia models and to alienate them wouldn't be good.

Agree 100% with Rich's comments .

Me too, although I would be surprised if Skoda UK want to be involved with more than one owner's club.

I dont think we need do much really. How about maybe chipping in to get a banner made up with 'Briskoda.net' on it , arrange to display some cars at certain local/regional or maybe bigger car shows , stand the banner on the ground in front of the cars , hey presto -club style display-for a one off cost , and no need for newsletters ect ect coz we get all the info from the website anyway. Ive seen it work at my local Classic car show at Mellerstain House near Kelso (which has featured a Skoda Club GB stand in the past) some of the cars were almost new , for example the Mercedes and Jaguar owners club stands. If we done it this way , our 'club' stand would represent Skoda when the 'official' O.C is not in attendance , and compliment their stand (most of the cars being from the 'pre VW' era on the SCUK stand usually) when they are in attendance. Any views on this option???

Right on Brother Rich.

Got to go with the name BRISKODA, it sounds good, it works, it caters for all Skoda models. Small membership fee could cover cost af all having "the stickers" , maybe pay for someone to colate all the forthcoming events, group buys etc which could be covered in a monthly newsletter e-mailed to all members, why a newsletter some ask. The forums are great but if you are away from the PC for a couple of weeks a lot gets posted & things can be easily missed.

For the future if Briskoda starts to attract the mindless posting of other forums could paying to be a member, maybe to an "inner forum" weed out the juviniles
