Can oil pressure be read on vagcom?

Featured Replies

Just wondering as it's something which might be useful for me in the next couple of days and I'm not too sure I have ever seen it in the measuring blocks. :)

Thanks

not unless it has an oil pressure sensor, some of the big audi v8's have them but i dont ever recall seeing a pressure sensor on a tdi, only an oil level thing on the sump...

the oil pressure switch on the cylinder head is only connected to the instrument cluster and it does exactly what it says on the tin! it switches off the warning lamp when the oil pressure is over a pre-defined level set by the switch

Aha! So it is just a switch, damn! Which I guess would switch ON the warning light would be it go below that level. So the car would let me know in that case if there was too little oil pressure.

Thanks :)

basically the way they work is that they have a spring and a ball bearing inside a tiny chamber, the ball bearing makes an electrical connection from the cylinder head and the terminal on the sensor (when there is no oil pressure) so the oil warning lamp would be on.... with the engine running the oil pressure would defeat the pressure of the spring, the ball bearing would move and break the electrical connection and the warning lamp will go off.

if you are really worried about it jason you can buy the oil pressure switches in different pressure ranges, so if you go for a higher pressure one then it should give you more warning...

There is an oil pressure sensor on the side of the Oil filter housing on the ASZ engine, I snapped mine recently taking the Turbo oil feed pipe off :dull:

I have a T and a gauge actually in the car. Trouble is the sender is foooooked! Thankfully for first start up, the garage was able to hook up a manual oil gauge which allowed easy thorough monitoring of oil pressure as the car's engine got used to running again! :) As featured in "video 2" in the "IT'S ALLIIIIIIIVVE" thread. :giggle:

The blocks for oil temperature aren't even populated...
