Took apart the hybrid turbo today - more out of morbid curiosity than anything else.

Is that 4th shot down supposed to be your compressor wheel?

It's the reverse side of the last photo. And shows where the shaft snapped and why the hot side compressor made it's way down my exhaust. Never to be seen again.

can I make an observation about this photo, I believe there should be a nut on the end of that threaded shaft, could the fact that the hotside impellor was insecure be the cause of the turbo failure

Don't think I will ever know but it went from hero to zero in a nanosecond so whatever happened, happened quickly and spectacularly.

yeah there's deffo a nut missing off that, might have caused the impeller to float slightly.... question is, where is the nut now?
