Slow Youtube Videos

Featured Replies

They take ages to buffer. Used to buffer really quickly but now they don't. I have a 10Mb Virgin Media connection and speed tests are reading around 9.5Mb which is fine. This doesn't explain why Youtube videos are slow. This is on my laptop, plugged into the mains. I'm running a genuine copy of Windows 7 and laptop power option is on high performance. Any ideas? Sometimes it's fine but evenings normally after 6 it's awful. Got to pause the video and wait for it to fully buffer.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried a speedtest when you-tube is being slow?

Usual questions apply, whats else is connected to the internet, are you using a router, how are you connecting...

But as most people would say, early evenings is always poor with internet bandwidth as so many people are all online, be it kids home from school or people after finishing work.... Peak times are always going to be harsh, but as suggested it may be worthwhile looking at the connection speeds when it goes slow...

And try going on google video or another site that uses video, see if that has buffering issues at the same time as youtube....

I have had no problems watching The Hurt Locker on Youtube, unlike the Briskoda

search taking around 15 secs....

Don't know if server load comes into it too. I can browse youtube and watch 5-10 videos that all stream quickly and then I'll hit one that will take a couple of minutes to download 5-10 seconds of film!

Hmm. This is what it's like for me. iPlayer for example is fine. Watching the F1 qualifying and it's playing fine.
