Pre remap work

Featured Replies

I am looking at having my vrs mapped pretty soon and just want to do a few jobs before it's done.

I've read that boost pipes are known for popping off so would like to jubilee clip these to help prevent this happening. How many clips are needed and where exactly are the boost pipes? (pics would be great)

Boost pipes, are they plastic, if so where can I get more durable replacements from?

Many thanks,

Brian

samco do hoses i believe

small bit of of help there

Depends on engine type ASZ or BLT. The BLT has a separate EGR valve and anti shudder valve, and the boost hose arrangement is slightly different. In any case, you cannot simply replace the C clips with jubilee clips, as the fittings on inter-cooler and other connections are designed so that the hose ends fit into them, not over them. These fitting also have ridges to hold the clips in place, and those ridges would need to be ground down to accept different hoses.

Hose order is from Turbo, Rubber pipe to aluminium pipe, short rubber pipe to lower inter-cooler connection, rubber pipe from top of inter cooler to plastic pipe that passes the timing belt cover, rubber pipe to EGR connection.

To replace with silicon hoses you would need a different inter cooler and all new pipe work, plus EGR delete, which on the BLT engine is different to the ASZ engine.

Alternatively, you can use cable ties to keep the hoses from popping off. Simply cable tie round each hose, then add two cable ties between the hose ties 180 degrees apart. This also prevents the hose connection from wearing out the two lips that are held by the hose clips. They wear out, as the joint moves slightly under boost, but not if held solid with cable ties.

So £1 for large cable ties, or about £400 for new IC and custom pipe work.

Answers my question too I guess. My mate has pikeyed his own out of some hoses and metal pipes. Still has std intercooler connecter on the end tho
