iphone help, cant turn on.

Featured Replies

I know nothing about iphones, so here goes. I have an iphone in front of me and cant turn it on. The battery was completely flat, so plugged in and left it for half hour and cant get anything. There is an apple on the screen, but pressing the button on the top doesnt get anywhere.

How can I get this thing to turn on, so I can jailbreak it for a friend.

Its a 3GS, I dont know which firmware it has installed currently,

Press the home button and the on/off button together. Kelp held in until the phone switches off and then you see an apple logo again then let go. This does a reboot of the phone.

I had the same thing happen to mine and that cured it. Be patient it will take about 5 mins to come on after you let go. If it hasn't after 10 mins then you need to get it into DFU mode and restore it with iTunes

Tried that earlier, I currently have the apple on screen with a circular thing over the top with dashes pointing outwards from the centre and nothing else happening.

Have you tried restoring through I-Tunes. Mine wouldn't turn on a while back and thats what I had to do. If your mate wants its jailbreaking, check that there is the right cracked software for the new firmware that the phone will be restored to.

It won't let you turn it on till it's got enough charge

it was still stuck, now in recovery mode and updating via itunes on my PC. Looks like its going to end up with the latest firmware, just need to work out the jailbreak process now.

Uh oh... latest fw = no jailbreak :(

Also, depending what FW it was on when you jailbroke it the first time, it may have been a teathered jailbreak.. meaning if the batt went flat you have to hook it up to the computer and run the jailbreak app to make it boot.

If it is not a warm brick now, prepare for it to be one.

I left it with the FW updating, its going to 3.1.3. I have no idea what FW it was on before, but it was not jailbroken before. The first time I tried the restore it timed out the recovery mode on the iphone because the office connection took so long to download the update.

Apple have also been closing acct's they've found linked to to a jailbroken iphone and reactivating digital protection of music.

it looks like he is screwed with regard to the jailbreak currently anyway.

I have run a tool called f0rcast which reads the phone details, and it looks like its currently not able to be jailbroken.

I might be tempted to run a virus/malware scan now on the PC you used to try to do this on.

i jailbroke mine,12 hours later it went into restore mode and i had to update it with itunes, tried again and 1 hour later it crashed too,i've had my 3gs for about a month and it seems it won't stay stable when jailbroken :'(
