Adaptive Front-light System on the continent

Featured Replies

I am moving to germany and will need to undertake a lighting test on my Superb with Adaptive Front-light System to meet the german laws. Do the adaptive lights convert to european LHD standards, or do I need to buy a new set of simple cheap LHD lights replacing the expensive adaptive ones?

Hi Pippkin,

Unfortunately the travel function doesn't pass the BFG lighting test and you will have to buy German headlights. I tried 2 different test centres and they both told me the same after I tried my luck but failed the test.

The headlights cost around €1200 including fitting :'(

Your rear lights won't need any rewiring or new fittings as they meet the regulations.

I hope this helps!

Robdan - thanks, sounds like an expensive problem, ontop of the expense of getting from BFC to BFG!

How did you get on with your lights? we have just ordered our superb estate and need to pass the BFG Light test. Do you know if you can put in halogen lights into the car instead of the bi-xenon.

Does germany have diferent laws than other european countries.

Many models have AFS and BI-Xenon, don´t understand what has to be changed???

its the beam pattern, not the AFS thats the issue. You can set the lights to EU mode, but all that does is flatten the beam. What you need is headlights where the kick is on the opposite side to ours. German motoring law is very strict and every single part must be TUV approved to be fitted onto the car otherwise you can get registered.

Lets see if I understand. Flat beem not allowed, you need de small tick on both sides.

If that´s it simple. On my octavia it has a small leaver inside ( must take headlight out) and I can switch to either .

Small tick only on the right side

Both flat

I find the flat beam better than the other one.

They say that with the tick you can see further on the side of the road, like someone walking.

I've the SE. I ordered Halogen LHD with mine for around £300. I can't see why a skoda dealer could not fit these for you instead of the Bi-Xenon and remove the adaptive settings.

I'm getting my car through Griffin, I will try and give them a call on Monday - £300 sounds a lot easier than £1000!

A friend of mine has just got a mazda 3 mps in BFG with adaptive headlights and got away with not changing his lights because he had a cover not from mazda germany. A flat beam will pass a TUV test is just the army rulls that ruin it. I would of looked into this and maybe ordered adative on mine if a had known. I dont think you could fit halogen to xenon speced car though.

What do you mean by 'he had a cover not from mazda Germany' ?

I think he means cover note from mazda germany, basically get a letter that states the lights are legal in germany.

Cheers!

Sorry, i should have figured that out! I wonder if Skoda Germany would do that?

Hopefully, it saved him about £1200!!!
