Steering issues

Featured Replies

My steering wheel is about 10/15 degrees turned to the right when driving straight. BUT.. it pulles very hard to the left. now does the car 'think' it needs to straighten the steering wheel or could i have other issues?

my tracking etc is all fine

Sounds like while the static tracking can look okay, this may have been achieved by someone being a bit lazy and correct a toeing error by adjusting only one track rod. Maybe this car really needs a proper (four wheel) alignment examination assumming nothing before hand.

It had a proper 4 wheel alignment, but the guy said it was perfect. but the steering wheel was to the right when they was doing it. he said he was confused to why it was like it.

you've got some serious issues with the geometry of your car, you really need to get it rechecked ASAP by someone that knows what they are doing

Just get someone to check for play in front suspension, balljoints, track rod ends etc, but it was all fine the other day, have you got matching tyres on the front now ? and similar tread depths alla round ?

Have you hit any kerbs ever? Could be the suspension bushings. I've been informed that these are weak points and I've had to replace them in both my Fabias because of hitting kerbs after being told that there was nothing wrong with the tracking. They are probably susceptible to all the pot-holes on the roads.

Removing the wheel and putting it back on for when you are going straight will not cure the pulling, so will need someone to check. A "perfect car" will not pull.

Did the place that did the 4wa give you a print out?

Yeah got a print out. Dunno what it means like. but he said it's spot on. will take a picture of it and upload it.

I had the Cupra bushes put on by Ally at unit18 and we checked the car over when it was on the ramps, since then it's just got worse. (not blaming Ally btw here)

I also now have a tapping noise coming from the driverside arch, doesn't sound metal on metal ( not like driveshaft/arb noise etc..), and only does it at certain times. Sounds kinda like the three bolts in the suspension strut at the top have come undone 1mm and tap. not sure. I'm gonna go take the wheel off now actually as see.

Measured the gap between wheel and car on each side. The passenger wheel is 15mm further back compared to the drivers side.

Sounds like bent wishbone or subframe alignment is out.

Yeah my g/f dad gonna get up on ramp and have a proper look. He thinks wishbone, but said it's cuite a chunky bar so could be something attached to it etc.. he said when taking it out.. 'it's a bit quick for a diesel' :o
