Yeti thread on Autocar.co.uk

Featured Replies

I came across this interesting thread on the Autocar forum, which you may be interested in perusing.

It’s interesting from a number of perspectives. Firstly, it’s great to see that the old fashion prejudice for the Skoda badge is still alive and well. There are also some comments about the cost vs value debate, which emanated from the Yeti road test that Autocar did when they proclaimed that the £21K fully specced Elegance they tested was poor value, and wrote the road test down on that basis!

There are also a few posts by some people who have at least driven the car, which are most welcome. Particularly, on page 6 there is a long post from someone called 'Bogwoppit' writing about his experiences of the 1.2 which is very interesting.

It's an amusing read, other forums can be very very different from this one!

Topkat - you are a bell end for saying exactly the same thing on every 4x4 thread without discriminating but, dammit sir, I salute your right to say it.

I've read through this thread and thought that many of the comments were actually quite positive and, like you've said earlier, especially from those who had driven the Yeti.

It is an interesting exercise to price up a VW Tiguan to a similar spec on their website and see what it comes out at. Taking consideration of the fact that the Tiguan does not appear to have half the options and accessories available for it that the Yeti does, you're paying a good £5K -£6K more.

How Autocar can turn round and say it doesn't represent good value - that's complete and utter tosh!

Interesting reading. I notice that the Brand snobbery from old still sticks around. That is incidentally also the case with the Danish equivalent of AA (Not Alcoholics Anonymous!), FDM, who gladly reviews a not yet available BMW X!, but has said nothing about the Yety, which has a better overall performance in all things, except price, which here is 2/3rds of the X1.

The other thing that strikes me is how easily people get into personal snidery - which we gratelfully don't see here. The occasionally spicy remark with tongue in cheek is fine, but that they attack other people's opinions just has no meaning in a forum where differnt opinions can be aired.

I totally agree with you there Agerbundsen. I always post comments that I would be happy to say to fellow forum folk if I were face to face with them in the pub (not sure how the emoticons would work there thoughemoticon-0140-rofl.gif ) Some people on other forums use the distance of the internet to get a little bit, shall we say, 'brave'.

I suspect that you'd roll your head from side to side like a big spaniel, blink your eyes, and have your mouth open to show your teeth.

And you'd do it ALL the time.

Except when you're taking the medication, that is, else you'd spill it.

Freshacre- can you send a batch of what you're on over this way please! :giggle:

I love this guys comment.

"RSkoda, your opinion is subjective and therefore not valid. Plus, potential buyers will most definitely have the Kangoo and the Yeti on their list. The fact that one is a 4x4 is immaterial, just like it is to people who compare the Fiat Panda with similar small hatches. It's overpriced, my friend. "

He accuses someone else's opinion of being subjective, but surely all opinions are subjective otherwise they'd be factual statements. Then subjectively claims that all Yeti buyers will have the Kangoo on their list. I know I certainly didn't and I suspect a lot of people on here didn't.

A lot of car companies would have to go out of business before a Kangoo made it onto my list. Muppet.

A don't quite get why people link a Yeti to a Panda 4 x 4. It is a little like comparing a Yeti to a Volvo XC90, they may be 4 x 4 cars but in terms of size and what they are for they are not comparable. I suspect these people link manufacturers together eg Fiat and Skoda, BMW and Mercedes, rather than the actual cars.

I dunno, I have always thought the Yeti looks like a Panda (not the 4x4 Panda) on Steroids. mentioned it once to a proud Italian Yeti owner here, but was silenced into submission.

They are naturally not comparable vehicles, but I like the Panda after thrashing one around in Mallorca for a week during a vacation two years ago. Did not get much out of 2nd and 3rd gear around the Malloquin mountains, though.

Because it's a Skoda!

John

whoops....must remember to include the word "Yeti" so as to stay "OT", or is that "OTT".

You're not here to enjoy yourselves - stop giggling Lady P, you'll only encourage him!

Back 'OT', I really couldn't understand Autocar's opinion as to the cost. I emailed them at the time to this effect and that they said roof rails were an optional extra on all Yeti's (I presume by the 'silver roof rail' option or the roof bars that span the roof as an option). Guess what? They never acknowledged my email let alone replied to my comments... emoticon-0145-shake.gif

I think it's just prejudice.

Like others I've compared the prices of Yeti against VW Tiguan and Ford Kuga. There's no contest.

While in Austria in January this year, I bought a 4x4 magazine. In a test of 9 4x4s, the Yeti came last behind a Tiguan (4th) and of all things a Lada Niva despite being cheaper than the VW and scoring a faster time over a snow covered course.

Seems that many people expect Skodas and the Yeti in particular to be bargain basement.

John

ps thanks Lady P.
