ST220, your thoughts....

Featured Replies

B5 S4 is 260 bhp as standard, and 4 wheel drive  girl at work bought a W-Reg Avant one last year for only £5000.

just looking at the post on tax going up in 2011...i think its well worth it for the fun that can be had in the vRS anybody agree?

My pennysworth......

ST220's are seriously sorted cars - my dad has a 56plate performance blue 5 door model and as a standard car it beats the arse off any well kitted out (downpipe, sports cat, exhaust, FMIC, custom remap etc..) mk1 vRS!!!

53plate onwards had 6 speed boxes which are silky smooth, only problem I found was you are hitting the limiter in a matter of seconds!!!

Comfort wise they stick to the road like $hit to a bed sheet, and you can cruise in near silence well into 3 figures, the handling is outstanding too!! Electric heated/air conditioned recaro seats are simply amazing too!!!!

They can be juicy to run, but so can any vRS, it all depends on how you drive it.

TBH if I was to get another fast FWD car now I'd be very tempted with one myself. Tip woud be to find one with extras like the air conditioned seats/sat nav/parking sensors etc.

The 3 litre v6 is very torquey and effortless to drive it wont blind you with its performance, but its still nice enough to please most - a completely different driving style to a turbocharged car....in many respects I much prefer it!!

Worthwhile modification are (speaking from experience with my dads car):

  • ST Focus brakes (325mm discs and callipers - a massive improvement over OEM ST220 brakes) + goodridge hoses/ferodo pads
  • K&N panel filter
  • JP Stainless system - sounds awesome popping and banging on the over-run, but retains the OEM look
  • Poly bushes all round
  • Front and rear parking sensors - not shown on pics, but it can be a pain in the ar$e to park!
  • 235/40 zr18 tyres (oem are 225/40 zr18)
