My car has a full set of OE mudflaps fitted, and always has done.

Just wondering if it would look better without them really? I know plenty of people run no fronts, but I've never seen a car without the rears fitted.

Bad for wind resistance, good for splatter prevention. Having a lowered car they do get a bit of a hard time sometimes too! The fronts look a little nailed....

I don't think they look cool but I won't take mine off because they do keep the car a lot cleaner and thats more important to me than it looking sleek!

It does look a little more like a taxi without front and rear mudguards too.

Can the rears be removed ???

Aren't they part of the wheel arch liner, Iirc the little flap at the front is part of it.

I think they look ok all round

I personally think they suit the lines of the car. Without (especially on the rear with it being quite a high bumper) would look a bit odd

The little flap at the front is part of the arch liner, the mudflap is separate and similar to the front setup.

That reminds me actually one of my little flaps has shattered and is all broken and jagged! A rock must have boshed it good, or the snow gave it a pounding.

I think both of mine have taken a kicking at some point :(

The stock black moulded ones look good; red rally flaps would look well wierd unless the rest of the car had the attitude to match.

Been thinking the same but can think of more reasons to keep them on.

Agree about the red rally flaps...... but I have black ones fitted to my black vRS and IMO I think they look great and they actually do some good unlike the OEM flaps.

However they do need to be fitted very carefully to ensure they are correctly aligned (nothing looks worse than wonky flaps :giggle: )

PS. re the rear plastic arch liner spats, both mine got broken during a trip to the Isle of Sky with OEM front and rear flaps fitted...... I repaired them and have'nt had any more problems since fitting my rally flaps

They suit the car IMHO. In fact, most of the taxis around here don't have mud guards! I just have the rears on mine, as has been previously mentioned, I don't think fronts would last too long anyway.

take them all off and see. see what you like the look of.

its your car. its your style. try and see, you can always put them back on after if you dont like them.

I like them

Me too

well mudflaps seem to be a UK thing... over here in Belgium I am yet to see the first Octavia with mudflaps so I can't really judge since I've never seen them irl... what I can say from pictures is that they do seem to suit a lowered car better compared to OEM hight and they look better on cars with a "sportive" look (e.g. Flybikeslee's yellow VRS)

cheers

That's my exactly the problem I'm having!

Yeah I think that's what I'm going to try this weekend. I'll whip them off and wash the car, then see how I feel. I've been staring at some pics of my car, and they do disrupt the arch line a bit where they overlap, so it might make a difference. Or it might make no difference visually!

I'll get some pics if I do take them off anyway.

Cheers for all the feedback guys

I hate mudflaps personally. Its just a pity they do such a great job of keeping the lower half of the paintwork in good condition, and when removed they tend to leave lots of paintwork damage.

i must say i had the rear flaps taken off of my black car and it exposed the tyre pattern nicely.

as for the dirt i just ended up washing it a little more often, but its no hard ship really.

had a number of people pass comment that they liked it, hence the take em off and try it. it completely changes the look of the rear end.

That's where this thought came from really. I was sat on the throne reading PVW and noticed how nice the mk4 looks with no rear flaps. Exposes the tyres like you say. I then realised that I couldn't find a single mudflap'd car in the magazine, so thought it can't be trendy (the VW guys are all image obsessed!), not that it's a major concern of mine!

I think it will help that my car is lowered, so I'll suck it and see. I'm replacing a smashed arch liner this weekend, and the wheels all need a deep clean, so I'll have a try.

Took all the flaps off last weekend to see how it looked, so here are the results. I prefer it without, so I'm leaving them off.

The fronts seem to hold alot of mud behind them, and make it harder for the water to drain out of the scuttle. They can also damage the edge of the wing when they get hit by a lump like a speedbump. No more draggin' flaps for me!

Just realised after three years ownership my 55 plate only came with rear ones! Prob bit late to go to dealer i bought it from!

all VRS's only came with rear ones unless you asked for front ones - you can buy the front ones as a kit and fit them yourself, they're usually about £15-20 from a dealer

I like them !

Here's my first Octy with fronts fitted.
