Sony to cripple PS3 by removing another feature

Featured Replies

its only making the fat PS3s in line with the slims that don't have the other OS option, also stops the hackers

i personally dont have a problem with this update as i never saw the point of another OS anyway, from what i undersand, there isn't enough RAM for Linux to run usably/properly anyway

Hardly 'crippling'.

The other OE's you could run didn't utilise much of the PS3 anyway.

Exactly, they are removing an already crippled feature. Its not as if removing Linux has caused any problems with the sales of the Slim.

From what i read, Sony only ever put Linux in the PS2/3 because a loop hole in taxation meant computer manufacturers pay less tax than games console makers. Thats since been closed, hence dropping Linux from the Slim.

Also it didnt help, that Sony make a loss on every console, and soo many places were buying hundreds or thousands of them, for making Linux Clusters for research purposes.

I honestly couldn't care. I have never even thought about installing another OS on my PS3 and it will make no difference to me TBH. And I am sure that the vast majority of PS3 owners won't care either!

I think the expression goes something like,

"Face......Bovvered!"

OH no this means im going to have to buy a PC to run another OS!?!?!

NO :wait: wait! iv got a PC.

Panic over

:giggle:
