Jag S type 2.7 More practical but possible dull

330 petrol or diesel Pricey

Merc Coupe Ditto

MX5 May have to take a hairdressing course

RX8 Ditto

Boxster Only if I win the lottery I think

Any thoughts or additions? If its to go ahead I don't want to spend more than 9k max and don't want anything with mega mileage.

BMW Z4-lovely to drive, not as gay to look at as the boxter. I drove my mates 2.5 one and wasnt impessed with the power. i believe the SI varient has more oomph. got a cabby in a friends Z4 coupe 3.0Si and that was rapid, and looked awesome

Don't mind Z4's but a 3.0 might be a bit pricey. A mate from away had one but flogged it before I got a go in it Boxter would really want to be at least a 2.7 but everyone reckons its the handling that makes them. Can't be that slow can they?

The Jag could be a goer, can be had for decent money now the XF is established.

Dull... maybe, but Clarkson had fun with one at The Ring a few years back

I think it's engine that he had in the XJ when he drove from Switzerland to Blackpool on one tank, and wasn't really that arsed about economy.

Right. Been out road testing today - or at least trying to, several garages seem to go out of their way to make it difficult, from nowhere to park (clever ), to a total refusal to let me try one RX8 . Crossfire was not too bad but pricey and a bit cramped, pre 2005 MX5 too small to drive!, post 2005 ok but not sure I can live with wind in my hair, and I don't fit in a Boxster either
