Rumbling from front left wheel

Featured Replies

I've had a rumbling from my front left wheel for the last couple of thousand miles. Car drives fine and does not pull.

The rumbling goes quiet when cornering to the left (less force on the left wheel) and more when turning right.

There is no nasty graunching/knocking when on full lock at parking speeds.

Anyone know what this is likely to be and how much it's likely to cost to repair?

thanks

andrew

Wheel bearing I guess. The bearings are not that expensive, but unless you have a press they can bit a bit of a pain to change at home.

How is the tyre wear across the tyre - even or not?

defo wheel bearing mate...just had both my fronts done

wear on the tyre is fine. Any way of definitely diagnosing whether it's the bearing?

The left-right steering pretty much confirms it, imho.

It sounds to me like a worn wheel bearing,i have replaced mine, you do really need a press to do the job,it wasnt a bad job to do,only tricky bit is removing the old bearing race off the hub due to the abs ring been in the way! i paid around £30 for each bearing. i would say a garage would charge around a couple of hours labour to do the job.
