Xenons not Firing - Battery?

Featured Replies

I'm having this problem where the left or right (usually one or the other) having to switch off lights and cycle them to get them on... xenons are not firing for the last few months. I've swapped out the bulbs and balasts and this is still occuring.

Once the xenons have been on driven for a while, parked up and return to the car say after 10 mins - guaranteed to ignight start first time.

I'm thinking this could be battery related.

The car has stood overnight and showing 11.9v - (just started it drops to 9.1v) then climbs pretty quickly to around 14.1v and stays there.

Is 11.9v when the engine off too low?

It's a 66ah battery on a 07 plated car.

if its 11.9V theres either some large load on your battery or the battery is caput. If you've replaced ballasts and lamps I cant really see it being anything else. Im assuming the ignitor is intergrated into the ballast?

Are you switching the lights on before starting the engine ?

They do advise only switching on after the engine has started (in fact that goes for any headlights)

But I must admit 11.9 does seem a bit low, but I would do a drop test on the battery (no I don't mean drop the battery from a hight) but has the battery started the

car ok over the bad (cold) weather, if so its not too bad.

Another point, how many miles do do in the car per day ?

Battery should be a minimum of 12.4 volts with engine off and no loads on battery.

I'm doing around 80 miles weekdays, so no short trips!

The car will struggle, but only for a 1/2 second if it's been standing for 4 days or so.

I do have a subwoofer connected - but that shouldn't be draining the battery, but I'll disconnect this and get a measurement as it's been stood overnight.

Hi Again,

You did not say if the lights come on ok when you have started the engine and then turn the lights on ?

as for the voltage of the battery not the best, but if the car starts alright every morning then don't worry

too much, but keep a open mind about replacing it, but I bet it will last over the summer (what does kill

a battery is the very cold weather)

No, they both do not light up if I switch the engine on, it's either one or the other! Cycle the lights a few times and they are both fine then!

I always turn on the engine before switching on the lights.

Car is under warranty, so if it's a duff battery - I'd hope i'd get it changed under warranty next time it's serviced!
