Tuning (again)

Featured Replies

First things first I'm now completely confused.

When I checked the price with AMD for the one click system for my Fabia Vrs I was quoted

Forget tuning box's etc just save and wait for the AMD one-click, I plan to have my one-click early next year but until then I am just sticking with the standard power and then is :D:D:D when the one-click is in

Ring AMD for a price on them i believe the price is wrong on there site or something like that

On ebay there is a load of cheap tuning boxes for sale for the pd engines by, Dradon Performance, HH Tuning and Carpower to name few. They claim not to resister in a box. Can these be trusted whilst I save up for the one click system? Has anyone used one of these products?

I got the Dragon Tuning box for the PD engine and it just plugs into the fuel sensor to tell the ECU to put in more fuel. Works a treat and car is no more smokey with it on, but performance is much better, as is fuel economy. Cost me 30 quid + delivery

Does it affect performance when the engine is cold as mine suffers from very poor performance when the temperature hasn't come off cold, i.e. at least the first 3-4 miles, its fine when well an truly warmed up though.

Don't tend to rag the car when cold, but can't say I've noticed any difference in performance depending on the temp of the engine. Have noticed that idle is occasionall a little bit "lumpy" when it's cold but I put that down to it just running a richer than normal........ :D

  ............Chris , I can't believe that you posted that reply !................until an engine has reached it's normal running temp , you obviously take things easy .

AMD gives a good umph... so I have been told

My wife complained that it wouldn't accelerate at all beyond 2000 revs so Ive been driving it for a few days. The first day it is was really bad when not up to temerature. ie 5-6 miles but fine after that. Now it seems to be OK but the weather is warmer in the last few days. Have been told the ECU remembers how its been driven and if not given a boot every few days or so will expect to be chugged along. Wondering if the box improves this phenomenon as well as performance that apparently affects all VW PD engines. If so it would be worth it if restores wife's confidence as wants out of it as she thinks its dangerous.

I've not ever had any problems with not having any power across the rev range, but then the way I drive the car, it's probably on the most aggressive ECU settings anyway ;) If it does it again, you could always try doing an ECU reset, or finding someone with VAG-COM to check to see if any faults have been logged. There are a couple of other people on the forum who have these on PD130 engines who might be along in a minute to share their experiences :D

Cheers for the info.

I'm know I should wait until I can afford the AMD one click, but I'm driving from the South Coast to Manchester at least three times in December and I really want that power now.

Might have to look into the cheap tnuing boxes for now, but I don't want the engine warning light flicking on half way to Manchester.

Having had a VAG-COM check there are no fault codes displayed and drove it for two days and seemed OK then. But now wife complained again so drove today. On a cold engine it wouldn't rev beyond 2000 and when thoroughly warm (Pete, no I don't cane cold engines but this is seriously sluggish) had very little torque and had to use full throttle for it to rev over 3000. Feels like a 1.4, 8v petrol and wife hates it again as everything overtakes us. Could it be N75 valve as mechanic thought as it feels like the turbo is not working at all?
