Tyre pressures

Featured Replies

Just wondering what tyre pressure should be for vRS on 17's with factory standard tyres (205/50.17) Anyone enlighten me?

looked inside the fuel filler cap?

:+1:

I run 33psi in the fronts and 30psi in the rear.

It's up to you though, start around 30psi and vary them by a couple of psi until you get to a setting that you like.

i know the fuel cap has got pressures in bar, but wondered what folks here recommended.

Think factory pressures are 32psi front and 30psi rear, although would like someone to confirm.

IIRC it's 2.1 bar front 2.2 bar rear which is about 30psi and 32psi.

I keep mine at that unless I'm doing motorway journeys with a few people in the car then I have them at about 32 / 34

thanks, 30 F and 32 R it is then - will see how i get on, thanks for reply

I changed my 4x4 from 16's to 17's and add in a boot constantly fulll of I.T. cr4p and tools and I found 36 all round gives the most even tyre wear. Any lower and the outer edges were wearing quicker and tyres would be hot after a high speed run.

Yeah I found 30psi in the fronts to be too low.

Not sure why Skoda want you to put more pressure in the rears, where no weight is (well for me anyway). I find putting anything over 31-32psi in the rears makes the rear end a bit too light around wet corners.

I found on my tyres (goodyear F1) that excessive tyre noise was found at 2.1/2.2 bar that could almost be attributed to wheel bearing, spoke to an independent tyre fitter who pointed out the tyre's were under inflated as they sat with the centre of the tyre concaved and not sitting on the road he advised to up to 2.4 - 2.6 dependant upon load, this has considerably quitened the noise and reduced the cars tendancy to tramline.

dont forget the weight of the Octi at the back end is more than the golf etc. For me with a boot half full of cr4p PLUS a tank of LPG in the spare wheel well 36 seems to be nicely balanced on fast roundabouts :D

I'd start with the fuel filler values, then add or subtract if you start getting edge or centre wear respectively.

I've never really found mine are wearing more toward the centre or edges but since I fitted Hankook EVOs on the front they have always made a real racket compared to the Avons that were on there before, so much so that I've been a bit disappointed with them, so I may take some of the advice above and try running the fronts at a higher psi for a while and see if that helps.

The back of the Octy is pretty heavy, you'd be amazed at the difference it makes when you just take the spare wheel and tool kit out, the back end feels very light and skippy.

Strangely I've just noticed my newish 452's have a little lip on the outer edge at the back of thread blocks (if that makes sense)

The toyos never did this ?? but they did have a harder edge iirc.

Do I need more or less air ?? currently running 31 psi

This sounds more like saw-toothing than a pressure issue.

Just nipped out too have a look and the lip is at the front edge lol

Saw toothing = Alignment ???? .........which was done 3 wks ago on the hunter system so should be good

just checked my pressures and they explain some of the weird handling I've been having.

both rears at 34psi, nsf at 27psi, osf at 33psi

adjusted all to factory spec and will see how i get on - thought the skoda garage would have checked these before putting the car out but nevermind

34 at the rear should be OK but way too low NSF which will causes all sorts of issues worst being exessive buildup of heat which can lead to blowout

it was kinda woolly and slow to respond in RH turns - explains a lot

I've just pumped mine up to 32 front and 33 rear. Car feels f***ing wierd but will see if it cures the noise the tyres have always made!

Saw-toothing on the leading edges => too much hard braking!

I've run mine at 34 rear and 32.5 front for ages now and it seems to work well for me. I'm on 225 45s at the moment, but will be going back to 205s next to see how they compare.

Always had 30 all round on my 4x4 with standard size wheels and tyres with even wear. Wonder why a Vrs should have more air in a larger tyre? Doesn't seem to make sense as it is lighter.

Not sure really. Maybe it's down to the particular tyre, rather than the vRS? The Goodyears seem to be better with slightly higher pressures all round, the Contis beforehand were fine on the recommended pressures.

I run my 4x4 estate at 35psi all round. It feels a bit light (in terms of steering and how easily the ABS comes on) but seems to produce the most even tyre wear. I lowered them to 20psi for driving in snow a few months ago.
