Metro 2033 and new GFX card Suggestions!

Featured Replies

Hey Guys.

Anyone played this game yet?

Just installed it yesterday and visually it is pretty stunning. I have had to turn some of the eye candy down a bit though as my, now ancient, 8800 GTX is struggling a bit. With settings on "High" (as apposed to "Very High") I am getting roughly 30fps but drops to around 12-15 in some scenes. Still very playable though! Some of the lighting and Physx effect are pretty amazing really.

Anyone got a DX11 GPU yet? I am thinking of upgrading to one. Prefer Nvidia for some reason but open to ATI suggestions.

I want it as quiet as possible although under load isn't really a big problem. Just a nice low idle noise as my current 8800GTX is water cooled and therefore makes no noise but a newer card would generate too much heat for my current set-up and be too expensive with a waterblock.

BTW I have a Q6600, 4GB OCZ Reaper, Thermaltake 700w PSU and an XFX 780i SLI mobo.

Some scenes from the game I just captured:

If you want cool youll prob have to look at ATI..

The latest NV dx11 hardware is expensive, runs hot and loud! Have a look/listen here!

Along with that performance you are going to get a LOT of heat and a lot of noise. There are just no two ways about it. GTX 480 SLI is hot and loud. Without the air conditioning on in my house it raised my office temperature by over 10F overnight while leaving a 3D game running. I can hear the GTX 480 SLI downstairs from my office. I can close the door to my office and hear it running. It makes a lot loud sound.

My ears are bleading!

They are all a far cry from the passive water colling set-up on mine and will add A LOT of noise to the system overall but I guess that's the price you have to pay!

The 5850's are reasonably priced and seem a good compromise between price, performance, noise etc.
