Another blue vRS

Featured Replies

I've been quietly lurking around the Octavia II forum for a while weighing up the pros and cons of getting a vRS. It turns out that there were lots of pros and few cons, hence I've now got a FL vRS TSI sat on the drive. It's my first Skoda and at the moment I'm well impressed with it, the only niggles are the rattle/wastegate noise at 2500ish rpm and the Bolero - I know a lot of people love it, and as a gadget I completely agree, but at the moment I'd prefer a few physical buttons so I could feel them rather than having to take my eyes of the (rapidly moving) road. Perhaps I'll look into a MFSW - I liked it on my old Mazda6.

There seems to be loads of good advice on the forum - hence I've got Maxidot and a full sized spare wheel (though it's strangely marked up as 50 mph max, any ideas why?), both of which I'd have probably missed if it weren't for Briskoda.

Cheers!

Welcome to the site :)

IMHO VW flat-bottomed MF steering wheels look pretty good

What rating is the tyre on your spare? Our one month old VRS came with a "full sized spare" which is actually 205/55-16 and is V rated ie up to 150 mph where as the boots on the car are 225/40-18 Z rated and there is no 50mph/80kph sticker as on my skinny spare for my 55 plate Toledo. Not having steering wheel controls is a bit of a pain, got it on the Toledo and our city car 09 Grande Punto which also has Blue Tooth as standard. Will get a ipod/mp3 holder I guess. Wish they had spent less on 6 CD which is not needed with the SD card slot anyways and had steering wheel controls as standard, still a fine car though.

I believe the speed limit is on the spare because it is not the same size as the alloys on the VRS. Since it is a different size they play safe and put a speed limit on it.

I wold agree with that about the spare. The tyre will likely behave differently to others that you have fitted so the H&S man would insist on a speed sticker to protect against the one stupid individual who has an accident while driving fast with a spare on. :dull:

Hi and welcome to the Blue vRS clan!! :smirk:

As I said mine did not have the yellow sticker saying 50 mph, well not that I have seen without taking it out of the wheel well. I would not feel especially at risk driving at 70-75 mph on this spare but I would not push as agree with what is said above that the tyre would have slightly different characteristics as it has different weight of course and will heat up ie pressure will be different to the 18 inch alloy wheel so coefficient of friction would be different ie would lock up sooner or later than other wheel depending on ambient temp etc. As I said in another post might be worth getting a second one and using as a "winter tyre" option maybe.
