Fabia vrs

Featured Replies

Howdy all.

Was driving up the road earlier this evening with the sidelights on, working perfectly fine. When i got home i decided to check that all the lights etc.. were working ok.

When i pulled the swith to test the front fogs the sidelights went out and now i cant get them to come back on.

Does it sound like a blown fuse? Dodgy switch?

Cheers

With the engine running.. do the test again (VW or Skoda) sidelights only one side works when the engine is turned off found it this out years ago on a Polo not 100% sure about the Fabia to be honest, we were left scratching our head for a good half an hour even after fitting a new bulb only to realise the ignition must be turned on for them to work..

Anyway If the sidlights dont work when the engine is on, turn the engine off pull the key out

Check or replace bulb should work

If you have fitted a new bulb and it still dosent work then check the fuses (Fuse box is under the drivers side dashboard the door must be opened to access the fuse box)

If the fuse is ok then it could be the switch (unlikely)

Fabias are known to blow bulbs for fun so im 90% sure its the bulb

keep us updated

Thanks for the reply.

Well i replaced the sidelight bulbs, it seems both must've blown at the same time somehow and are now working fine.

Now one of the headlights has blown :D .

Do they tend to blow bulbs regularly. Ive only owned the car less than a week and theres 3 ive had to replace already.

All depends on when the bulbs were replaced before you purchased the car could have been a long time..

To be honest I replaced my bulbs all around because I had spares, the ones on the car when I baught it back in February looked abit tired so I replaced them

Since Feb I havent replaced any bulbs so I cant see them blowing too often

Syptoms of a worn bulb difficult to tell, but its usually a visual check: the thin hair line in the bulb looks blackish/bent or the bulb itself starting to go black from inside indicates the bulb will need replacing soon.

As a pre-caution I would advise you keep a spare set in some kind of bubble wrap in your boot just saves you the hassle of running around looking for a bulb when your busy..

Compared to my Yaris T Sport I have never replaced in 2 years of ownership emoticon-0148-yes.gif with bulbs its usually just luck..

Im guessing switching them on when not required would reduce the life of a bulb.

A tip my local garage told me a few years ago was dont turn start the engine with the lights on, as the current which flows through the bulbs can cause the bulb to blow coz of a sudden power surge I have always followed this rule and my bulbs tend to last longer..
