Drivers door locking and mirrors issue

Featured Replies

My Octavia has started locking me in since the weekend! If I unlock the car with the keyfob and get in but dont turn on the ignition straight away all the doors lock up. I have also lost the "headlights on" warning buzzer and the "door open" warning light. The interior light still works as normal but the electric mirrors are behaving strangely, left one works fine but when I adjust the right one the left one also moves but in the opposite direction.

I have just probed it with Vag-com and it is showing no fault codes but it is saying the drivers door is closed when it is actually open.

I am assuming it is a switch that is either stuck ,broken or faulty but cant seem to find it on either the door or the A post ?

Haynes manual is about as much use as a chocolate teapot..........

Car is a 2002 Ambiente estate, 90 Bhp Tdi.

Sounds like a fault of one of the microswitches on the drivers door lock. When the car is unlocked does the red LED in the top of the door continue to flash?

Cause is either the microswitch having gone u/s, or quite possibly a dry solder joint on the switch. There are some guides on here for taking the lock assembly out and resoldering the joint.

Red light stops flashing when I unlock it.

Damn thing locked up on me today at work with my keys inside so after getting hold of the spare set and getting home an hour late I have stripped the lock out of the drivers door and it is the microswitch that is faulty (plunger snapped off). I have found a similar switch in an old printer and Araldited it in the place of the old one so hopefully should be back too normal tommorow. ;)

As for the mirrors, they are supposed to both move when you have the drivers side selected - this is to save time adjusting when different people drive the car. The passenger side works on its own still. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I think that feature depends on the age/trim of your car. Certainly that is how my 2001 Elegance behaves, although I have seem some which are L, R & Heat, where as mine is L, L+R, Heat.

Put it all back together today and it works fine now, Mirrors are still the same though. I have owned the car since 2004 but i had never noticed both mirrors moving together before.

Quite impressed that its cost me nothing to fix it though :)
