Octavia 2.0 Tdi CR VRS as a company car

Featured Replies

The VRS hatchback is on my company car list and i'm very tempted !

With it being a lease car I don't particulary want to spend much for extra's that I would need to pay for over the next 3-4 year lease. Dealer told me today that

maxidot wasn't really needed but I suspect it would be benificial for the extra few quid a month. The Sat Nav option would cost me about £35 a month so

I can forget that. I'm happy with non leather seats as I prefer the look of the standard ones.

Anything you think is really necessary or is the car good to go with factory standard equipment ?

Biggest problem seems to be choosing a colour, the car looks good in all of the options althought the dealer said the black wasn't good unless kept immaculate.

Maxidot - tbh, I was slightly disappointed so in all honesty I don't think you'll really miss it. I know it's classed as one of the must-haves but all I've used it for is switching on the anti-hijack - and obviously you only do that once and it's all set. I actually wondered whether or not I even had maxidot when I first played around as I was expecting to be able to configure a lot more. Presumably you can just get the dealer to set the car up as you want anyway.

Spare wheel is a no-brainer for £50.

The only other thing I went for was the leather seats.

In hindsight, I should have given more thought to rear parking sensors, so that would be the thing I'd recommend thinking about. I haven't really had any problem parking, but coming from an Ibiza it's quite a difference to get used to and I think they would have been worth the peace of mind.

Other than that, the standard kit is excellent IMHO, can't grumble with it at all!

I've been mooching throught the forum (and very good it is to) with a view to leasing a VRS diesel estate to replace my previous 320d company car

Options wise I am in the same boat I'm trying to keep the costs down but it's always tempting for an extra few quid a month here and there to get carried away, from my understanding (waits to be corrected) the Maxidot makes the binnacle display look more modern and allows you to change various functions/settings on the car (There a few threads on it but I have only stumbled upon them as not having a great deal of success with the search function ?)

Think I'm going to stick with the standard seats as they look and feel pretty sweet to me

I'm going to add:

  • Maxidot
  • Rear Parking Sensors
  • Spare Wheel (WTF)
  • Side Curtain Air Bags

Not very exciting granted but hey ho

Colour wise I'm fancying the Anthracite grey as I swore I've never have another black car as long as I lived (They do look sexy when clean though) and as much I like the look of the blue ones they are a lot of them, either that or they just stand out more

I'm still unsure of what the variable boot floor is about and if the sunset glass is just tinting or what if anybody would care to elaborate

I have gone for the maxidot in mine but to be honest I think it made more of a difference in the orginal Mk2 compared to the facelifted one. The facelinfted dash has a large black with white writing LCD display in the centre which at a quick glance does not look a lot different to the maxidot. On the original Mk 2 the non maxidot car (what I have at the moment) had a LCD display that was half the size of the maxidot. This made the maxidot cars look a lot nicer (not so different now). However, after getting that car I always said to myself that my next one would have maxidot due to the low cost to get one.

The sunset glass is a heavy tint on the rear windows of an estate. I have opted for this since it will make it better for my kids in the rear and the price is no more than getting it down after. The variable floor is a unit that fits in the boot and makes it level with the lip of the rear door. It also gives a little cubby hole under the floor. I believe this unit can be dealer fitted at a later date if you decide you want it.

I would say the rear parking sensors are very useful for the hatch. Rear visibility is not the best with the hatch and I find the parking sensors very useful.

I have the reace blue one now and getting another blue one. Toyed with the grey but after seeing my car cleaned I knew it had to be blue again, it just looks great.

DSG Gearbox  Fantastic

Xenons

Spare wheel

Rear sensors

Anthracite too:

Anthracite is a great colour for people like me who don't wash their car very often. It can be quite dirty and still look great.

IMO rear parking sensors are extremely useful on the Octavia hatch. It's not easy to judge where the back is from the drivers seat. I've never had them on a car of mine before but after 4 months in the Octavia I would not be without them.

Like most features on a car, if you do not have them then you do not miss them. But once you have them you often would not buy a car without them since you get used to them!!!

DSG Gearbox Fantastic - would love it but thats an extra £20 a month. I've never driven a DSG so won't miss it....will I !

Xenons - an extra £12 a month

Spare wheel - an extra 94p a month ......think I can stretch to that !

Rear sensors - an extra £4.50 a month

Then it's an extra £7 a month for any paint other than white or red.

Soon adds up to an extra £45 a month.

Think i will stick with the factory standards with a spare wheel and special paint and consider the parking sensors, the above posts have now made me think I dont need maxidot.

i have already chosen a vrs cr tdi estate in black for my company car and was informed by my boss that the skoda was very cheap to lease (through vag leasing)

this seems to be due to the vat free price which i think took the car from 20500 to 16800(approx) thus lowering the p11d value which is used to calculate the tax.

but you may already know this if not check with leasing company and then load it up as i wish i could have ordered a dsg one now.

P11D is calculated on the list price which hasn't changed. It's not really a VAT free offer, the dealer is giving a discount that is equivalent to the VAT...

My invoice shows the price including VAT and then a discount of 15% (I ordered last year)

I test drove a DSG VRS last week and was not that impressed with it. This could be due to the fact I like a manual gearbox and even though it had the paddles to select gears it just did not feel 'right' to me. Now I may have gotten used to it if I bought one but since they are so much extra I felt it was not something I want to pay for. I am also lucky in that I do not drive through large amounts of traffic. If I had a lot of city or stop/start driving then DSG would be nicer to drive due to the auto bit.

I recon the rear parking sensors would be a waste of time on the hatchback VRS. Never had any dificulty judging my distance when reverse parking, the rear spoiler is clearly visible from the drivers seat and sits almost as far back as any point on the rear bumper.

C'mon folks, learn how to drive again !!

Thanks for the input so far. The car does look very nice in Anthracite, not a colour I had considered but I guess I fall into the wash it every week for the first few weeks then it gets less and less so this colour may suit me. I did used to have a Ford RS Turbo in white and washed it everyfew days, perhaps it's to do with the car and how much you love it !

Do the rear parking sensors display on the head unit or maxidot, or is it purely an audio warning?

An alternative view;

If you want to keep costs down, fit the parking sensors yourself - £20 from ebay, four holes in the bumper, 1 connection to the reversing light and 1 to earth. Lets be honest you don't look at the screen on the stereo when reversing, you use the mirrors in conjunction with the bleeping. Its about having balls big enough to get a drill out on the bumper of your brand new company car but its not too scary and I did it about two days after picking mine up!

There is set of measurements somewhere on here which I took when doing mine - I'll post if I can find it.

I >think< Maxidot is now standard.

The standard Facelift stereo is much better than the old Stream unit.

Xenons - on my own car I'd fit an aftermarket kit (don't start on about legality emoticon-0114-dull.gif ) or uprated bulbs but on a company car I'd probably not bother.

Spare wheel - £50 on ebay if you're really that fussed.

Get a red one - they look gorgeous and it saves £252 over 3yrs........

The seats are perfectly good enough standard and to be perfectly frank, I think the leather ones are uncomfortable by comparison.

If you are a motorway knight then make sure you stick on cruise but again if you want to keep that tax bill down pay for it to be retrofitted - its dirt cheap.

I must admit that while I love my VRS, I wouldn't climb over a 320D to get to it in bed! The 320D is a much more refined, dynamically FAR superior, is considerably more economical as well and probably in a lower tax band due to the stop/start technology........

.......almost but not quite!

that 2 inches makes a difference.........ask my missus emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I'm not going to bother about rear parking sensors. I have chosen to retro fit cruise and after market HIDs. The rest I can live without tbh. I have to say though I dissagree with the refinement statement. I've driven many 3 series and the jump is marginal imo. I think the VRS manages mid to high speed corners exceptionally well also.

You have virtually written up my thoughts, and have saved me the effort!

Cruise control is standard on the vRS

Ive got mine as a company car. All it has over and above standard is full leather and the auto lights/wipers. And only because it was only car we could get in a hurry.

They have plenty of kit as standard i.m.o.

On the new ones maybe, mine doesn't.

I checked with the leasing company today, Lloyds Autolease who state :-

"Unfortunately this offer is only available for retail purchases and not on the Company Car Scheme

For this particular vehicle you do receive a 10% discount off the taxable list price (£19,715), which is automatically reflected on the quote"

Oh well.

On the new ones maybe, mine doesn't.

Sorry, I was making the assumption that anyone thinking about taking a lease out would be looking at new ones...

I >think< Maxidot is now standard.

Only if you order DSG, bluetooth or Columbus...

Only if you order DSG, bluetooth or Columbus...

And on the vRS, bluetooth is only available on the DSG...
