Clipped by lorry

Featured Replies

Sorry this is a bit of a copy of the other post but I couldn't change the title.

I got clipped by the door of a storage locker at the back of a lorry trailer this morning. Bit of damage to the car, smashed indicator lens on the mirror, maybe some more damage there, deep scratches on both driver side doors and some rippling of the door skin.

Driver stopped and admitted fault and I've a witness.

Do I need to inform my insurance company or I can I just go ahead and sort it out using the companies policy number?

Have spoken with the manager and administrator at the haulage company and there is no dispute.

They will put up your premium anyway as you will still need to declare it when you get quotes, they will ask if you have made any claims which you have (albeit against somebody else) and if they were fault or non fault. Even if you claim against the other party your current insurers will be notified in case something else arises from the incident in the future.

Insurers want to use Dunfermline Coach Works.

Anyone heard of them? Good, bad, indifferent.

Insurance have indicated it'll be tricky to get a courtesy car from anyone other than their chosen repairer.

Take it where you want and use www.helphire.co.uk for a car. They give you an equivalent car to use and charge to the 3rd party insurance. You can take the car wherever you want.

Before you go for the accident help car loan schemes, check out the contract in detail.

I am not a lawyer, but I believe that if it goes to court and you can't prove you needed the car and why you needed it under that arrangement rather than a straight hire, then you might not the money back.
