As I said before I like the 5008. Very nice. And since you said it will be costing you much more I'd have thought it would be a no brainer: get the cheapest one of the two options you mention!

totally agreed with you - but as the wife pointed out we might be having twins!!! It's barely big enough for 3 kids.

If that's the case, then i would be 1 month into a contract on a 36 month contract with the Yeti - and £1000's to get out of it.

opps sorry! did you mean out of the 2 engines in the 5008? - yes i agree to, but concerned over the EGC box

Get the 2.0 because the 1.6 110 bhp will be very sluggish in something that big/heavy.

Autocar test of the 1.6 HDI:

http://www.autocar.co.uk/CarReviews/RoadTestsHistory/Peugeot-5008-1.6-HDi-110-Exclusive/246969/

this is the worse review of the 1.6 HDI engine i've read - i've been more worried about the EGC gearbox.

we have to have automatics - i would be happier with the 163 HDI - but mpg is signifficantly worse than the 110 HDI egc.

such a dilema.

I have the 1.6 HDI/TDCI (Ford and Peugeot share engines) engine in our commuter car, a Ford Focus which has a kerb weight of about 1350kg and the performance is just about acceptable.

The 5008 carries around another 200kg (kerb weight of 1550kg) of weight which means the engine is going to need working, pulling out into moving traffic ect is going to be hard work.

I think you need to drive both models to decide for yourself.

I also have a Ford Focus with that 1.6 diesel engine. Worst diesel engine I've ever had. Completely gutless until you hit 1800rpm, and needs working quite hard. It's reasonably good on the motorway, although when we put our bikes on the roof I can definately feel the drop in performance. On a much bigger car like that, and many more occupants and luggage (we are just 2 + big dog), you'll be dissapointed with the engine

Wow. That is amazing. My 75bhp PD 1,4 TDI Audi A2 never feels two bikes on the roof. Two weeks ago I was camping in Wales with one rear seat left at home and the car boot full up to just under the ceiling so I can still use the rearview mirror and two bikes on the roof. Put your foot down in 5th and it still jumps and maintained 80 via the cruise no problem up and down hill. AND after 684 miles of driving my average fuel consumption was 43,5 mpg - so the price is fuel, but it is still as gutsy as ever fully loaded. Great car this. And only reason I'm replacing it with a Yeti is because the Yeti is bigger inside and even greater in other respects.
