And also remember that the Mazda MPV and the Mazda 5 are totally different cars... MPV was the actual name of that car and it does not refer to a generic mpv.

We had a Mazda 5 and I thought it was very good. Some of the comments about S-Max interior quality apply (even though they're not based on the same vehicle) but they're good value for money and have the advantage of sliding rear doors, which are very handy for installing kids into child seats.

Also the last two rear seats are quite useable for small people and are easily accesible.

I'd say the alternative (assuming you don't want to have the kids adopted, as suggested above) is to go for the Yeti and get yourself a 2 seater to follow on behind. I actually knew someone who did this a few years back - every time they went to Wales for the weekend, she took the kids in her Galaxy and he "followed" in his Porsche 944 Turbo :giggle:

Your best bet is to visit your nearest Skoda showroom, with kids in tow and check out the rear seats of a Yeti to give you peace of mind before cancelling your order?

Congratulations on the new addition to your family :)

I agree on both counts.

Get down to the dealer and get your two car seats installed and take a guess at how much space number 3 is going to need.

Regarding luggage space, you may need to think about a roof box. That's what we did.

And finally my congrats on your news.

John

many congratulations Krooked on the good news but sorry to hear the Yeti will be no good- that is my definate opinion!

Alternatives well...almost any MPV or large SUV ...anything but the Qashqai...

We looked at them 3 times and test drove and these were the problems...

There is NO luggage space  in the Q+2...and the 2 rear seats are tiny and you hit your head... :S and a nightmare to get into...

a complete gimmick...IMHO

and the wallowing handling around corners...well if your kids don't don't get carsick yet... they would in the Q+2 !!

The Qashqai is a good shout. I know a number of people on this site are anti them, Terfyn for one clearly, but I see big numbers of them around me. The reason I did not get one was visibility out of the back window but otherwise I like them. They would give a Yeti style of car but with the extra size you need. Go to a dealer and try one. If you don't like it then walk away.

To say I am anti any car is just plain stupid - perhaps you should have questioned my reasons before printing statements like the one above.

My feelings about the Qashqai resulted from being told by the Dealer that the Qashqai has been the subject of a number of recalls. I am anti any car that is proving to have a dubious history.

As the Yeti is mostly VW I am assuming that much of the kit has a history of reliability and good performance.

15 months ago I tested the Qashqai for myself and found that it drove OK but my local dealer changed allegance, mainly because the Nissan support service to dealers, for after sales problems, is so poor. In the past I have had a major run-in with Nissan Customer Service over a Terrano, that I owned at that time, so I know that the dealer spoke the truth about the Nissan back up service.

Congratulations! What about an Octavia Combi? Even the standard Octavia saloon has got loads of room, particularly in the boot!

Octy space in the rear is quite limited ?

Good driver / bootspace though.

You've got a lot of choices for a motor!

The Octavia / Scout is great for a family of 4 - but very tight in the back for a 4 year old in car seat, a 12 year old and an adult. Though it does have a huge boot which you'll need for the push chair / changing mats etc..

My wife used to drive a Picasso which did everything, big boot, plenty of seat space and cruised the motorways with ease (2.0 Diesel) and reliable!

As an option for the Yeti you could get some Thule aero roof rails and a 360 litre half width roof box, so when you do run out of interior space - you've got the "loft extension" to use.. Also depend on your engine choice - I've got a 170BHP Elegance on order.

Good Luck and Congratulations!!

To use the phrase stupid is inflammatory, unnecessary and rude. You do not like the Qashqai, you said as much in the post just above mine so that does make you anti it. I am not criticising that as there are cars out there that I do not like and if I had had bad experiences with them then I would also warn people off them, that is the point of forums such as this. We take our experiences and pass them on to others. That seems quite resonable for you to do that and I do not criticse you for that. Why then come back with such a knickers in a twist repsonse? Very disappointing when the thread has been good so far.

Yep agreed - it's unusal on most forums there is a lot of bickering and fighting. So the Yeti forum has been a refreshing change.

Right back to business - is it that small? i mean to be specific:-

1. 8 yr old - tall enough to not need a booster seat

2. 6 yr old - needs a booster seat not a car seat

3. 0 yr old - needs a car seat + pushchair/buggy in the boot

It's a bit embarrasing but we ordered the car without looking at it - other than reading all the reviews. Plus Child 3 had not been conceived! :giggle:

Now if the Skoda Yeti is smaller than a MK6 Golf than maybe we do have a problem.

Maybe we should be looking at Peugeot 5008? seems to be getting good reviews and cheaper to lease than a S-Max

Have you ordered the Yeti? Surely if the car is in as much demand and therefore build time is three months or more then the dealer should have no problem in getting a customer for your ordered car at very little or no loss to themselves or you. Lets hope if this is the case the dealer does the honest, decent thing. I fear not however. I have just re read you post so I now know it is a lease ignore my ramblings

You call my statement Rude? I don't go bandying other peoples names about in that arrogant manner and I don't presume other Members feelings to make me sound big.

I was expressing my view regarding the Qashqai and my experience with Nissan (isn't that what Forums are all about?) You stepped in by quoting my "name" in that context, this was unneccessary and just plain offensive.

Perhaps a little less arrogance and rudeness from you would go a long way.

After all you said it:-

"I am not criticising that as there are cars out there that I do not like and if I had had bad experiences with them then I would also warn people off them"

If you had bothered to read my post, that is exactly what I was doing.

You started this personal attack on me, I suggest you now stop.

hmmm.... my 3 kids would fit in (just). But i don't know if it is my heart ruling my head. .

I just can't bring myself to cancel this little wonderful car (it's being delivered next Thurdsay)

Edited by Krooked

Just to cheer you up - I did a £150 supermarket shop for the first time since having the Yeti and was wondering how it would fit in the boot. I opened the boot to find my husband had stored a spare high backed child's car seat in there. Still got it all in with room to spare. Boot is actually bigger than I thought it was. Tested out our 2 large hard suitcases in the boot and we can get them in standing upright, with room to spare, with the parcel shelf in position. So pack light and you may be alright!

Also, don't forget that the seat backs tilt.

We currently have our high backed child seat (4 year old) in the centre - mainly because there's a better view from there - but it means that with the outer seat backs reclined the outer passengers have that bit more shoulder room; in this way we have traveled with one child and two adults (make that two pregnant adults) comfortably sat in the back.

Obviously the main issue with three child seats is getting sufficient width for the seat bases and that's something you will only know by trying, don't know if the isofix situation may have a bearing as well.

I'm sure it's been said up-thread as well, but the front passenger airbag can be disabled which opens up the options of even putting a rear facing baby seat in the front.

In my view, to do a three child + two adult car properly (ie have ample space rather than sufficient space) you are looking at something significantly bigger.

As long as you can get it to work safely, I think the Yeti is a good enough car to be worth going for the sufficient space option.

Lastly - are you going to be looking at things again in three years from now anyway?

Thanks Weaver - yes i agree with your comments, very helpful.

It is a 3 year lease - so with growing boys we will defo need to size up then. My wife did point out that she had 4 boys in the car with her the other day in her Vauxhall Corsa (ages 13, 11 and my two 8 and 6) with no problems including all their skateboards in the boot!!!

It's such a difficult decision to make cancelling the Yeti - we've waited ages for it, we love it - it will also cost me £470 per month for a similiar Pug 5008 MPV as oppossed to £330 for the Yeti. So it's hitting us in the wallet as well + another 3 month delivery wait! arggghhhhh!!!!!!!!

Well I think you will find there are plenty of people out there with three kids with even smaller and/or older vehicles. And they manage. The Yeti's boot is square and if you use the space above the parcel shelf and always keep the seats set halfway forward (to enlarge the boot) I think you will find it perfectly fine for the next 3 years. As to width have one adult in the back and a baby seat in the front? I don't have mine yet but from all I've seen and heard it is a spacious device you quickly will love... and find spacious enough.

Keep it. Perhaps go on the main Skoda forum to the Fabia owners area and ask if there are any families on there with a Fabia as the family car? Or speak to people that get along on something smaller. Relative to that then the Yeti will be huge! I know it is the other way around of thinking about it but you can't lose. And that extra £140/month you can save to rent something bigger for trips where you require it. Or you will have £5,040 in the children's university fund at the end of three years...

thanks 900000 i think we will keep it - as you said plenty of people cope. The money we will save will be enough to hire a bigger car (if and when) needed for longer trips.

well it's here next week (apparently) - so i'll report back then

thanks 900000

That makes me sound as if I am a robot! beedeebeedeebeep!

You will like the Yeti I'm sure and it will crawl under your skin in no time. Another option is to invest in a tow bar and buy a little trailer for the holidays. The Halfords trailers are way to small in my view. Look at these. They are from South Africa where every person in the country has a Venter. Not cheap though but a proven design.

elitefront495.jpg

I prefer my roofbox to be honest but the Yeti being a bit higher means the box can be a bit high. But a tiny step ladder is still cheaper than a towbar. The other disadvantage to me (in this country) re a trailer is that you are speed limited to 60mph.

As I said before I like the 5008. Very nice. And since you said it will be costing you much more I'd have thought it would be a no brainer: get the cheapest one of the two options you mention!
