New Scout ? Sell old 1.9 Private ?

Featured Replies

Had a letter from Skoda the other day saying our 3 year finance was about to finish on our 1.9 Octavia Estate and we could have an equivalent car for little or no extra cost to monthly payments. Now the Mrs has been fancying a Scout for ages and we toyed with the idea some months ago.

We have a final payment of 5k but thats in the bank ready to go.

Looking at used prices they seem to be going for £10,995 on Autotrader.

Our car :

1.9 PD Elegance in excellent nick with 16,500 miles on the clock

Maxidot

Curtain Airbags

Xenons

Exhaust trim

Sill guards

2 new tyres on back

Would it be better to trade or sell privately ?

Would £10,500 be a fair private price ?

Do used Octavias appear to be selling ?

What would be a fair trade in price ?

I'm guessing the main problem would be that we need the car until we had the new one but we need the cash for the new car if we sell private.

The 1.8 Scout on Drive the Deal :

£17437

Xenons

Curtain Airbags

Full sized spare

Heated Front Seats

Maxidot

Metallic

Variable boot

My guess is that it will sell privately - when I was looking I could only find high mileage examples at 2-3 years old, and they were all through the dealer network almost without exception. If it's 3 years old and out of warranty, my guess is that you'll need to price it cheaper than main dealer cars offering a 1 year warranty (??).

In the end I found it better value to buy new with the offers around than to spend ~10K on a car that had done high mileage.

If your current car is on a PCP, then if you give the car back to Skoda there is nothing more to pay and you can use the 5K towards the new car.

Don't do that!!!

Part exchange it or sell it for more than the £5k you owe and use the equity plus your £5k in the bank (or part of it) to put as deposit on another PCP agreement on the Scout.

Hi James. Do you mean say sell the Octavia for 10k. Pay off the 5k and have 10k to put down on the octavia ?

Yes. That would be the best way to go from your Elegance into your Scout of choice.

Although, with PCP deals the maximum you can put down in 30% anywya so you couldn't use all of your £10k so you'd have to keep some of it in a savings account, or spend it!

I wish I understood all this properly ! We traded in a 2 year old Fabia and had the Octavia over 3 years with a final payment of 5k. Is that a PCP then ? Their is 6 months payments left on the Octavia.

Would you be able to get anywhere near that Drive the Deal price James ? It's probably wishfull thinking on my part but I'm pretty sure if we could keep the payments roughly the same with the same 5k payment at the end the Mrs may want to sign on the dotted line.

I'm in Sheffield but not too bothered about a drive to pick a new car up....
