Knocking when I take my foot off the gas.

Featured Replies

Hey all

I've got a audible problem in my 54 Fabia VRS.

I'm driving along in first, and let my accelerator pedal go and *knock*

It's quite annoying, in traffic anyway........

Anyone got any ideas what it could be?

Maybe either ARB bushes, or the console bushes. Common issue if you do a search if it's working again.

I have Cupra console bushes, and Whiteline ARB bushes :-(

Could be an engine mount. The dog bone @ the rear of the box is the weakest of the lot.

Also have you had the CV joints out of the hubs of recently, mine had a similar knock, turned out to the nut on the end of the joint had worked its way loose, letting the joint move in the back of the hub.

Maybe not then!

Pretty sure it will be the dogbone mount, or possibly the gearbox side mount. The dogbone mount underneath would be the first and easiest to check matey. My car had the same issues... also happened just dabbing on/off the throttle and occasionally over bumps... basically the engine moving further than it should causing metal to hit metal (of the mount)!

There are uprated dogbone mounts, but they may cause your bones to disintegrate!

Nope got uprated dogmount too!

CV could be good shou,t I'll check!

hmm could be the gearbox side engine mount? I had to have both replaced for mine to stop knocking. Could easily be something else!

Did you pin down the problem? I've got the familiar noise on mine, going to get the console bushes and dogbone mount replaced since if they're not the problem this time there's every chance they'll fail in the near future anyway, but if there's anything else to replace as a precaution while it's in the garage then I'll get it ordered.

I'd also like to know if the problem was solved :-)

When taking my foot of the gas lately, I often get a fast rhythmic knocking from the front - I'm guessing it's the same sound you experienced?

On another note, sorry guys, but as I'm translating from English, to Danish, to Swedish (I'm in Denmark but Swedish garage prices are easily 40% cheaper), I do need some clarification on the bushes.

I need to get the left and right console bushings done as they are starting to crack. (In Denmark. 400 GBP) There are only front console bushings, no rear?

Then there are ARB-bushings which are 2 front and 2 rear?

Referring to "suspension arm bushings" which of the above would that be?

And if it's the ARB-bushings, is there another name/description for the console bushings?
