Do fabia rear woofers do much?

Featured Replies

Just wondering - Thinking about removing those entire plastic panels from either side of the boot side. Only thing in them is the woofer for the stereo. Thing is I think I lose the rear tweeter as well if I take them out as the wiring kind of goes into the speaker and then out to the tweeters in the rear doors.....

You don't need rear speakers anyway  all they do is add a 'fill' to the sound, which is not always a good thing unless its set up right. Mine have been turned off since I put my alpine head unit in. Get rid if you want, thats what I say.

Sure - fair enough - I wonder if I can still keep the rear tweeters as they do add an element of "surround" sound with a bit of fade.

Just run the speaker cable that comes from the headunit (that would plug into the woofer) and connect that to the tweeter cable instead - If you catch my drift? I find the tweeters too close to my ears for me, but each to their own!

I tend to run them with a bit of fade to the front, and a bit of left balance bias to get "centre" volume where I am sat.

Thing is with the tweeter is there is one wire from HU to the woofer, then there is a separate plug for the tweeter which plugs into the woofer as well - 2 plugs in the woofer in all, so assume somewhere in the woofer, it joins these up?

Found a circuit diagram to show what I mean

R16 is the tweeter, and it links in solely to the woofer R17 - so removing R17 means I would have to join up R16 to the circuit somehow.

Yeh I can see what you mean, I didn't really explain what I meant that well. Basically if you take the two disconnected plugs side by side, the woofer is no longer connected. Therefore if you connect the wire that comes from the headunit, to the plug that runs to the tweeter, this will then provide the circuit needed. We can always have a look at it on Saturday if your uncertain

ill show you exactly what do do as i have done something similar with mine in prep for the sub, is it worth bringing my amp to coombe so someone can show me how to wire it up in the fabia?

I can show you how to wire it up. Not the easiest thing in the world, but I have "been there, done that, ran with 80kg+ of ICE in the boot"

Could you not just put a 'jumper' cable between the 2 connections on the woofer plug? Or is there a bass blocking capacitor somewhere to avoid blowing the tweeter?

Looking at that diagram, it looks like there may be a capacitor between the woofer and tweeter in the wiring.

I've done away with the heavy car subwoofers too, and come up with a lightweight solution. I'll let anyone have a listen and see what they think!

Lose the rear tweeters, as they destroy the sound stage in a Fabia. Sounds a lot better with the rear tweeters gone....and saves about 0.1 kgs :-)
