Have you ever been asked to slow down on a test drive?

Have you ever been asked by the salesman to slow down on an accompanied test-drive?

I think I was once in a Scooby Legacy. I was surprised not to be in the Alpina D3 and Scirocco. I definitely would have been if the Octy vRS test drive had been accompanied!

Nope!

No, quite the opposite in some cases.

I got told during the test drive of my previous Ibiza PD130 not touch the traction control button!

The first thing I did when I took a mk2 out @ Allams was turn the TC off

The salesman didn't say a lot on the test drive, only that it was faster than his Fiesta

bertee did kane the arse off the car as he had no intention of buying lol

sales mans face was a pale white colour lol

i wonder why the police then sat on that roundabout lmao

hmmm, I seem to remember that poor bloke getting taken out in that one all day :giggle:

I was surprised at the diesel one though, made Clive's missus scream a little (that's more than Clive's done) B)

In the mid 90's subaru in association with Prodrive ran some test drive events at Millbrook. At the time I drove a rover 420(?)Tdi so was not used to a lot of power. The guy with positively encouraged me to go faster than the 130 odd mph we were already doing on the millbrook banked circuit. This would be in an early Impreza Turbo. I was hugely impressed on both the banked oval and the millbrook Alpine circuit.

Not once I'm on the test drive, I had a dealership reluctant to let me have a test drive in a vRS even though I was looking to buy.

The dealership I use now let me take out a Fabia vRS, even though they knew I wasn't looking to buy one, and didn't moan at all when I drove it spiritedly.

No I haven't, was asked to gently put the power down at first (road was a little damp). Then at a slip road he was happy so said to my Dad (who was sitting in the back), are you ready......then hooffed it... :giggle:

never been accompanied :giggle: I did however take out an SLK 230 and was instructed not to turn off the traction control, (which I of course then promptly did!)

You have to be accompanied when you are on trade plates :)

Nearly the opposite with me when I bought the evo. Shooting down A roads at 90-100 and then screeching around a failry tight roundabout about 4 imes to demonstrate the grip.

Dealer said he was supposed to drive them legally, however, thats not what they are for.

Never had a salesman say a word on the test drive, they are usually too busy holding on or trying not to be sick, i even managed to make a lovely young asian lady turn white as i drifted the honda s2000 back into the dealers carpark after a nice test drive where i explored the full limits of grip and handling, she did say a minute or two after we got out that it was the best ride she ever had, whilst still trembling slightly..............just the way it should be

I once threw a young man out of my Abarth 130TC. I was selling it privately and on the test drive, as we sat patiently at a junction, he decided to floor the throttle, bouncing the car off the rev limiter and as the light changed to green, he smartly side stepped the clutch……….whilst the car was in second gear!. I smartly explained to him that he should pull over and leave before I stabbed him with my hair brush. He was very surprised and jumped out. I drove home and explained to his father where he could find his idiot descendant. He even agreed with my actions (perhaps not the ‘hair brush as a lethal weapon’ bit).

I have been in the opposite situation (bit like Lady E) where I have had to tell a customer to slow down.

This was years ago when I worked for Marlin & we had an open day. I took three lads out in a Roadster. I guess the tall tales were being told whilst we were out & the last lad must've felt under pressure to out-do his mates. I bit my lip for the first two, even though I was nervous but I really did think the last guy was going to lose it! :(

Kind of.

When testing driving a Fiesta Zetec back in 2002. The car has loads of grip and I was driving a bit tooo ethusiastically on the M60!!! Not fast though.

@Lady E - Well done up until buying that vehicle is yours and should have been driven appropriatly. Love the way the articles written

Ithe most i have been told is to notgo to crazy just as we were about to leave the garage. Then he egged me on lol.

I test drove a mini cooper s clubman prior to buying one a couple years back and was amazed when the dealer just gave me the keys and said can i bring it back in an hour. Dear god i thrashed that car to death much harder than i would have done with dealer in the car with me, and consequentloy i ended up putting in an order for one.

I've been told to slow down but only to warn me of a speed camera round the corner ;) I'm always a little wary on test drives as I don't want to hammer the car with someone in the passenger seat so I was quite pleased when test driving the VRS that the sales guy seemed to be quite into fast cars and encouraged to stretch the car's legs for overtaking.

Had the same when I was selling my saxo vts they lad drove it like a 'king c*ck! Since then I've never let anyone test drive the car when I've been selling it!

I was once told to put my foot down more when I test drove a subaru turbo
